2nd Annual Volusia County Sheriff Charity School Bus Race set for Saturday Night at New Smyrna | by Jane Smith
Samsula, Fla (September 10, 2003) The second annual Volusia County Sheriff's Charity Bus Race for the Florida Youth Ranches is set for Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway.
Last year this event raised more than $10,000 for the Youth Ranch and this year expects to be even better. Driving the school buses in the race will be local law enforcement officers who are definitely good drivers but not use to school buses. These buses do handle just a tad different than the cars that these officers are use to. But it is for a good reason and everyone always enjoys this show.
Along with the School Bus race will be all FASCAR divisions - Super Late Models, Late Models, Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stock, Mini Stock and Strictly Stock. PLUS it is "DOUBLE" points night which will make the racing even tighter as the guys battle for the end of the year championships.
Although a few championships may look like a "sure thing", you never know in stockcar racing. One bad finish, one missed weekend, can throw everything out the door. With all the rainouts this season, every point does count Saturday night.
Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR44 and SR415 beetween I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna Beach in beautiful Samsula, Florida Have an opinion on this story?
