DOUBLE POINTS Friday Night at Orlando SpeedWorld

by Jane Smith

Bithlo, Fla (August 21, 2003) With so many season rainouts these past few months, Friday night's DOUBLE POINTS will be extremely important. With some divisions in very close point battles for the Championship, every point helps at this time.

All division at SpeedWorld will be racing Friday night. Rusty Ebersole and B.J. McLeod have been in a very close battle all season for the Super Late Model division. Ebersole and McLeod were tied in points going into last week's race but Ebersole eased in front of McLeod by just eight points. Ebersole now stands at 460 points to B.J. McLeod's 452 points. These two drivers are very good friends and have enjoyed racing each other all season long and put on a great show for the fans.

Ricky Wood comes into the Super Late Model division third in points with 268 points followed by David Hart with 160 and Ronnie Roach with 152. Rounding out the top ten are Rick Bates, Rick Lyons, Eric Deffendall, Bobby Lyons and Aric Almirola.

Matt Wheeler took over the points lead in the Open Wheel Modifieds leading Shane Held by four points. Wheeler leads with 388 points over Held with 384. Jason Boyd comes in third with 352 points followed by Lynn Dicandio with 280 and Glenn Bradley with 236. Double points could give the lead to any of the top three.

Completing the top ten in Modified points is Dave Riley, Jared Allison, Frank Polly, Darren Gould and Chad Pierce.

Richard Hight looks like a shoe-in for the Sportsman Points Championship leading the points with 611 markers. Michael Albert comes in second with 368 and with need more than double points to catch Hight. Donnie Smith moved into third last week with 276 points follwed by Doug Samion, the early points leader, with 256. Justin Hall takes over fifth with 228 points. Completing the top ten are Danny Shearer, Rob Kayse, Robert Hight, Bill Hall, and Erick Traves.

Another shoe-in for the points championship is Tim "Missileman" McPhail in the Mini Stock division. McPhail leads the points with 524. Dick Laszlo, in our only Mini Truck, comes in second with 388 points followed by Sean Bass with 352 points. Mike Williams, Jr. comes in fourth with 156 points followed by R.J. Arnone who moved into fifth last week with 140 points. Randy Blakeslee, Pedie Allison, Rex "Boneman" Hollinger, Chad Pierce and Josh Hermann round out the top ten.

The Super Stocks were off last Friday night but coming into this Friday night's double points action will be Cory Freed leading the points with 476, 100 points over second place Bob Wines. Ron Whaley comes in third with 364 point followed by Mike Soukup with 260 and Bob Beiler with 200. Completing the top ten are Billy Cuddy, Andy Nichols, Wally Semrow, Ron Edwards, and Butch Pierce.

Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Florida.
