Legends join the field at Orlando SpeedWorld August 15 | Bithlo, Fla (August 13, 2003) Racing has taken a back seat to Mother Nature for quite some time now but hopefully Friday night will see some racing action at Orlando SpeedWorld.
Legends return to the track for a night of close side-by-side racing. These cars put on a great show and really race hard for the win. But they don't have pontoons so if the bottom drops out, once again they will be rained out.
Also on the program this Friday night at SpeedWorld are the Super Lates, Sportsman, Open Wheel Modifieds, Mini Stocks and Strictly Stocks. The Super Stocks will have the night off.
B.J. McLeod and Rusty Ebersole will duel it out for the Super Late Model Championship. These two drivers are very good friends and enjoy racing each other hard and side-by-side. At one time this year, Ebersole even drove B.J. McLeod's back-up car against B.J.'s primary car just so Ebersole could stay in points. That is true friendship especially when you are so close in points. Rusty and B.J. are presently tied in points. Ricky Wood, David Hart and Ronnie Roach round out the top five in Super Late Models.
Shane Held is hoping to take home his second Open Wheel Modified Championship but only holds a 24 point lead over second place Matt Wheeler. Jason Boyd is coming up fast and stands third with 284 points followed by Lynn Dicandio and Glen Bradley.
Richard Hight is doing a great job leading the Sportsman in points. Hight holds a 203 point lead and looks to be well on his way to the Championship. Michael Albert comes in second with 368 points followed by Doug Samion, Don Smith and Danny Shearer who is tied with Rob Kayse in fifth. Watch these guys as they put on a great show week after week.
Tim "Missileman" McPhail is showing the way for the Mini Stocks. McPhail also looks to be in good shape to win a second Championship at Orlando SpeedWorld. McPhail has a 144 point lead over second place Dick Laszlo. Sean Bass comes in third with Mike Williams, Jr. and Randy Blakeslee rounding out the top five.
Super Stocks have the night off but when they return August 22, it is Cory Freed leading the Super Stock points by 100 over second place Bob Wines. Ron Whaley, Mike Soukup and Bob Beiler round out the top five.
Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Florida.
