BIG FOOT Makes the Scene at Citrus

by Larry MacMillan

(Inverness, Fl. 8/6/03) The Monster Truck of the Century, Big Foot, will perform its car crushing ability and kick out the power that it is famous for throughout the world at Citrus County Speedway this Saturday night. Big Foot will go through its paces and the driver will be available for autograph and photo sessions for the fans after the performance. This is the first ever appearance of the Godzilla of Monster Trucks at Citrus.

The super Late Models make it back to the 3/8ths mile asphalt after three weeks off and will be tuning up for the second leg of the Florida Pro 125 weekend scheduled for next Saturday night in their only appearance of the year at Citrus. Mike Bresnahan comes in with a 48 point lead over Jim Smith after taking his first point win of the season on July 19th. Ricky Carlton holds out in third trailing Smith by just 4 points. Herb Neumann Jr. has a 99 point lead over Dale Sanders in the run for fourth. Thirty eight different Late Model drivers have earned points during the 2003 season.

Mike Veltman fell out of the top spot in Sportsman action after his disqualification last week. Veltman was in pursuit of his fifth division crown and now faces a four week suspension before he can get back into the war. Rookie Mike Bell moved into the lead after his second win of the season last week. Bill Oesterreicher holds out in second trailing the leader by just 13 points. Veltman fell to third place with a solid lead over Bill Ryan and Johnny Sanders to round out the top five.

Danny Cretty continues to hold a slim lead in the Street Stock battle with Ernie Reed picking up some ground after a second place finish last week. Mickey Burns trails Reed by 64 points. Travis Nichols continues to close on the top spot and last week’s winner, Joe Viverito, is hot on his heels, just 18 points out of fourth.

The seesaw battle for supremacy in the Mini Stocks continues between Chris Hooker and Chris Thornton. Hooker took the win in his heat and the feature last week and bounced back to the top dropping Thornton from that position after a second place run last week. The two have swapped the top spot four times in the last four outings. Phillip Joyner lost a lot of ground after a D.Q. in tech last week but still holds a solid third place spot. Mike Lawhorn has a 94 point lead over George Neumann who moved from sixth to fifth after his heat win and third place finish last week.

Curtis Neumann gained a mere six points on Hobby Stock leader Richie Smith despite Smith picking up bonus points for leading the race at one point. Neumann finished fourth and Smith finished sixth in their 20 lap main. Sport Wilson holds out in third over back to back winner Dean Lawyer who is edging closer to the top over the past few weeks. Roy Perkins is in fifth, well behind Lawyer.

Pat Quick still holds a comfortable lead over Lee Keller in the Thunder Stock battle. Keller took his second win of the season and only picked up 12 points on the swift lady driver with a third place finish after being put to the rear at mid race by being involved in a caution. Louie Cioe, John Donahue and Larry Triana round out the top five in the 42 car division.

The first heat for Saturday night’s “BIG FOOT” special takes the green flag at six as Citrus County Speedway continues its 48th season at the Citrus County Fairgrounds on U.S. 41 just two miles south of Highway 44 in Inverness. Pit gates open at 2 p.m. and grandstand gates open at 3.
