Strictly Stock 25 Lapper on Program for Saturday Night at New Smyrna Speedway plus All FASCAR Divisions

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla (July 23, 2003) There has not been a Saturday night in the last six weeks that New Smyrna Speedway has seen any racing action. Hot laps were completed last week with the downpour came and flooded the pits faster than a jack rabbit can run. Disappointed fans and racers went home once again without their fill for the "need for speed".

This Saturday night New Smyrna Speedway will again try to race depending on how Mother Nature decides to go. On the program are all divisions plus a 25 lap Strictly Stock feature.

David Rogers leads the points in the Super Late Models and has a 100 point lead over second place Wayne Parker and B.J. McLeod who are tied at 288 points each. Guy Thomas and David Frohlich come in fourth and fifth. Rounding out the top ten are Joe Fitos, Brent Hobbs, Chris Fontaine, Mark Vandevender and Bruce Lawrence, Jr.

Brian Bellaw is looking for his second straight Late Model Championship and has the lead with 316 points over second place Tim Clark who sits at 224 points. Both Bellaw and Clark have seen Winners Circle in 2003.

Mark Smith comes in third with 204 points followed by Timmy Todd, who raced in the Goodyear Challenge Late Model race last Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld. Todd sits fourth with 172 points and is tied with Larry Osteen.

Bobby Orr, Don Hess, David Rogers, Chris Lawrence, and Aaron Dreher round out the top ten in the Late Model division.

Bobby Blake and Mark Vandevender are eager to get their points battle going for the Open Wheel Modifieds. At one time Vandevender lead. then Blake, and now Blake holds a four point lead over Vandevender. Matt Wheeler comes in third with 172 points followed by Brad May with 124 points.

There is a three-way tie for fifth, sixth, and seventh as Jim "Hoot" Flynn, Justin Henderson and David Castello all sit at 104 points each. Completing the top ten are John Zidek, Skip Honaker, and Chad Pierce.

Billy Spade leads the points for the Sportsman division with 386 points followed by Ron Lufcy with 312 points. Chris Peludat sits third with 244 points but it is rumored that he sold his No. 28 Sportsman to Billy Cuddy. Bill Love and Jim Snyder round out the top five.

Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius holds a 20 point lead over Tim "Missileman" McPhail in the Mini Stock division. This has been a close points battle and will stay close until the end. Rex Christensen comes in third with 368 points followed by David Castello with 180 points and Ben Hutto with 172 points. Hutto was in the pits last weekend with his new No. 38 Mini Stock which looked very sharp. Maybe he will get to test it this Saturday.

Ron Whaley has a twenty point lead over second place Charlie Collins with 448 points to Charlie's 428 points. These two battle hard and side-by-side and both want that Championship for 2003. Jeff Colburn would also like to see that Championship trophy at his home as he stands third with 332 points.

Josh Wronkowski, the early points leader, is fourth with 288 points followed by Mike Amato at fifth with 220. Buth Pierce and Rob Trombley are tied in sixth and seventh with 136 points each. Todd Driscoll, Rob Watford, and Ted Head round out the top ten.

Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30 p.m. New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR44 and SR417 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna Beach in beautiful Samsula, Florida.
