Sportsman 50 Lapper and Mini Cups join the program at New Smyrna Speedway July 12th

Samsula, Fla (July 8, 2003) New Smyrna Speedway returns to FASCAR racing this Saturday with Mini Cup Florida Invitational, Sportsman 50 Lapper with 911 Racing and Super Lates, Lates, Open Wheel Modifieds, Super Stocks, Mini Stocks and Strictly Stocks.

David Rogers holds the lead for the Super Late Models with 388 points, 100 points more than Wayne Parker and B.J. McLeod who are tied in second with 288 points each. McLeod and David Frohlich are the only other two drivers who have won a Super Late Model feature other than David Rogers. Guy Thomas comes in fourth with 192 points followed by David Frohlich with 144 points.

Joe Fitos comes in sixth for the Super Lates with 120 points followed by Brent Hobbs with 80 points, Chris Fontaine with 72 points, Mark Vandevender with 60 points and Bruce Lawrence, Jr. with 37 points rounding out the top ten.

Brian Bellaw is looking for his second Late Model Championship and holds the lead in the Late model division with 316 points. Bellaw, in his Jolly Roger's/Blackie's Saloon Chevy, is having a good year so far. Tim Clark holds second with 224 points and has seen Victory Circle this season. Mark Smith comes in third with 204 points followed by Timmy Todd with 172 points and Larry Osteen with 172 points.

Bobby Orr, who returns to Late Model racing this weekend, comes in sixth with 140 points. Don Hess, a new driver this year, comes in seventh with 124 points and a very strong car. David Rogers, you are not seeing things, is eighth in Lates with 108 points followed by Chris Lawrence and Aaron Dreher.

Bobby Blake and Mark Vandevender have been battling for the lead in the Open Wheel Modifieds this season. Blake has taken over the lead with 364 points but only four points behind Blake is Mark Vandevender. Matt Wheeler stands third with 172 points. Brad May comes in fourth with 124 points.

There is a three way tie for fifth, sixth and seventh in points as Jim "Hoot" Flynn, Justin Henderson and David Castello all sit at 104 points each. John Zidek comes in eighth with 100 points and not far behind Flynn, Henderson and Castello. Skip Honaker and Chad Pierce round out the top ten.

The Sportsman will have a 50 lapper this Saturday with Bill Spade coming into the event with the points lead. Spade sits 112 points ahead of second place Ron Lufcy. Chris Peludat comes in third with 240 points followed by Bill Love in fourth with 204 points and Jim Snyder in fifth with 192 points.

Paul Colgan comes in sixth followed by Dusty Downer in seventh. Dale Clouser has moved up into eighth with John Nusbaum and Cory Kaiser completing the top ten. Expect to see a fairly large field for the 50 lapper.

The Mini Stocks have seen a close run for the points lead as Ted "Mr Mini Stock" Vulpius and Tim "Missileman" McPhail are only 20 points apart for the lead. Vulpius sits at 456 points with McPhail at 436. Watch as these two battle it out weekend after weekend.

Rex Christensen comes in third with 368 points followed by 2002 Mini Stock Champion David Castello who has returned to the No. 1 Mini in fourth with 180 points. Ben Hutto rounds out the top five with 172 points and should return to racing action this weekend as he took off a few weeks for car repairs.

Bob Delmastro, who has been missing in action lately, comes in sixth with 132 points followed by Wayne Clark with 128 points in seventh. Troy Kruse comes in eighth followed by Ron Dubeau and Chad Carpenter and Chris Jones who are tied with 48 points each in tenth and eleventh.

Ron Whaley has the lead for the Super Stock division with 448 points but still close enough to win also is Charlie Collins with 428 points. Both of these drivers have wins under their belts with many more to come. Jeff Colburn comes in third with 332 points followed by Josh Wronkowski with 228 points and filling out the top five is Mike Amato with 220 points.

Butch Pierce and Bob Trombley are tied in sixth and seventh with 136 points each followed by Todd Driscoll in eighth and moving into ninth is Rob Watford with 100 points. Ted Head sits tenth with 88 points.

Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 7:30. New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR417 and SR44 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna Beach in beautiful Samsula, Florida.
