Orlando SpeedWorld returns to Racing Action Friday July 11th | by Jane Smith
Bithlo, Fla (July 8, 2003) After taking off July 4th for the Pepsi 400 weekend, Orlando SpeedWorld is back in action this Friday night with the Classic Auto Racing Series and all FASCAR divisions.
SpeedWorld will host a National Bandolero event this weekend also with racing action heating up on Friday for the big races on Saturday. Already over a 100 Bandoleros from across the country have entered this National event.
Derrick Wood leads the Bandolero Bandits with 508 points. Following Wood is Gerald White, Jr., Chad Akins, Matthew Jarrett, and Josh Williams. Matt Martin returned to SpeedWorld on Friday, June 27th after a lengthy absence. Expect to see Matt this weekend as he participates in the Nationals along with possibily Bobby Labonte's son.
Kevin Henry has been hard to beat in the Bandolero Young Guns and holds the lead with 500 points. But Brandon Thompson is doing a very good job of chasing Henry week after week. Thompson is second in points and only 32 points behind Henry with 468 points. Scott Jarrett, Troy Atkins, and Jessica Murphy round out the top five.
Rusty Ebersole and B.J. McLeod have been in a battle for most of the season for the lead in the Super Late Models. Ebersole took the lead on June 29th when McLeod had problems. Ebersole holds the lead with 400 points but McLeod is only 20 points behind with 380 points. This will be a good chase for the Championship between two very good friends.
Ricky Wood stands third in Super Late Model points with 220 points followed by David Hart with 160 points and Ronnie Roach with 116 points. Jared Allison and Rick Bates are tied for sixth and seventh with 100 points each but watchout as Rick Lyons comes in eighth and only four points behind Bates and Allison with 96 points. Bobby Lyons and Aric Almirola round out the top ten.
Richard Hight has a good lead in the Sportsman division with 455 points over Michael Albert with 340 points. Doug Samion, the early point leader at SpeedWorld, comes in third with 256 points followed by Danny Shearer with 184 points and Justin Hall with 168.
Rob Kayse stands sixth with 156 points followed by Robert Hight in seventh with 136 points. Don Smith, who has gotten better and better and looking for that first win, stands eighth with 128 points followed by Erick Traves who has been out for awhile with damages. Earl Beckner rounds out the top ten.
Shane Held is looking for another championship and presently holds the points lead in the Open Wheel Modifieds with 300 points. Newcomer Matt Wheeler has shown his stuff and sits second with 284 points. Jason Boyd is moving up fast and stands only 40 points behind Wheeler in third with 244 points.
Lynn Dicandio, who went from Late Model to Open Wheel Modified this year, has done a great job for his first year in a modified. Dicandio has gotten stronger each week and should be seen sometime this season in Victory Lane. Dicandio stands fourth with 184 points followed by Glen Bradley in fifth with 176 points.
Dave Riley comes in sixth for the Mods with 172 points followed by Jared Allison, Frank Polly, Darren Gould and Chad Pierce.
Tim "Missileman" McPhail looks to be headed for his second Mini Stock Championship at SpeedWorld as he leads the Mini Stock points with 392 points. Dick Laszlo, our only Mini Truck, has gotten stronger and stronger each week and has moved into second with 288 points. Sean Bass also is having a good run this season and stands third with 260 points.
Newcomer and son of Michael Williams, Mike Williams is looking pretty good in his No. 32 Mini Stock. Williams has been very smart, stayed out of trouble and his persistence is shown as he stands fourth in points with 144 points. Randy Blakeslee rounds out the top five with 120 points.
Completing the top ten in Minis are Pedie Allison, Chad Pierce, Rex "Boneman" Hollinger, Amanda Tonchuk and Curt Steere.
Cory Freed, the 2002 Super Stock Champion, leads the Super Stock points with 380 points but only 60 points behind Freed is Bob Wines. Wines has put his Super Stock up for sale and plans to somewhat take a break from racing to spend quality time with his girls.
Ron Whaley sits third in points with 248 points followed by Mike Soukup with 220 poitns and Bill Cuddy with 196 points. Rounding out the top ten are Andy Nichols, Wally Semrow, Butch Pierce, Bob Beiler, and Ted Head.
The bike race that was rained out on June 27th will also be run this Friday night at SpeedWorld so kids, BRING YOUR BIKES.
