"Wild Child" returns June 28th at New Smyrna Speedway

by Jane Smith

Samsula, Fla (June 24, 2003) After last weekend's disappointing rain out, fans will be happy to hear that the TBARA Winged Sprints and the famous "Wild Child" flagman plus the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series race are back on the schedule this weekend at New Smyrna Speedway.

TBARA Winged Sprints are one of the most sought after series in the state with their speed and style. Keith Butler comes into Saturday's night race with the points lead for TBARA. Expect to see Shane Butler, Joey Aguilar, Dude Teate, Wayne Reutimann Sr., Wayne Reutimann Jr., Doug Heveron, Gary Gimmler, Bobby Rose, Wendy Mathis, Sonny Hartley, Scott Adema and many more. And of course always "Wild Child", the flagman who dares to be WILD.

Robbie Yoakam leads the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series points and has always done well at New Smyrna Speedway. Yoakam has had a really good year so far with quite a few wins under his belt. Robbie Storer, Lee Davis, Richard Kelly, Jr., Darren Jackson, Jimmy Warram, Dennis Valdez, Tom Jones Jr., Chris Hooker and Tom Zimmerman complete the top ten in points. Also Rick Sirmans was at New Smyrna last Saturday when the bottom dropped out. Over twenty cars had come in for the 50 lap event with more expected in sunshine.

The FASCAR Pro Mods will run Friday night at USA and Saturday night at Citrus County Speedway, double duty. So modifieds are not on Saturday night's program along with Super Lates and Lates. Super Lates will return for 125 laps on July 3rd with the Clyde Hart Memorial.

Bill Spade leads the Sportsman division at New Smyrna with 384 points.
Spade has built a huge lead and will be tough to beat. Ron Lufcy sits in second with Chris Peludat, Bill Love and Jim Snyder in the top five.

Ron Whaley leads the points for the Super Stock division after winning two weeks ago. Whaley now stands at 412 points, 24 points ahead of second place Charlie Collins. Jeff Colburn comes in third with 328 points. Josh Wronkowski started out the season with the points lead but has fallen to fourth with 264 points. Mike Amato rounds out the top five.

Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series qualifying at 6:30 p.m. Racing action begins at 7:30 p.m. New Smyrna Speedway is located between SR417 and SR44 between I-4 and I-95 eight miles west of New Smyrna Beach in beautiful Samsula, Florida.
