Bithlo, Fla. (June 17, 2003) All FASCAR divisoins will be in action this weekend at Orlando SpeedWorld except for the Super Lates. Joining the Open Wheel Modifieds, Sportsman, Super Stocks, Mini Stock, and Strictly Stock will be the Classic Auto Racing Series and the Legends. Plus a Kids Bike race.
Ben Booth leads the points in the Classic Auto Racing Series. But right behind Booth is Daryl Grief. Joe Strehle, Bud Spencer, and E.B. Carr round out the top five. Al Hagan, G. Helton, Patrick Sanders, Frank Conrad and State Senator Bill Posey fill out the top ten in points.
These drivers and their cars put on a great show every time they visit SpeedWorld and you can expect the same show quality this time.
Derrick Wood has an 80 point lead over Gerald White, Jr. in the Bandolero Bandits division. Wood, who is having a stellar year, sits at 480 points with White at 400. Chad Atkins comes in third with Josh Williams taking over fourth in points after his fifth place finish last Friday night. Matthew Jarrett completes the top five.
Kevin Henry holds a 16 point lead in the Bandolero Young Guns over Brandon Thompson. Scott Jarrett, Troy Atkins and Jessica Murphy complete the top five.
When the Super Late Models return on Friday, June 27, it will be B.J. McLeod leading the points but only by 8 over Rusty Ebersole. These two, who happen to be very good friends, put on quite a show every week as they battle each other for the win. Side-by-side, door-to-door they race around the track without ever touching.
Ricky Wood is looking for a win and comes in third in points in the Super Lates. Sixty points behind Wood in fourth is David Hart followed by Jared Allison in fifth with 100 points.
Richard Hight has a 115 point lead over Michael Albert in the Sportsman division. Doug Samion, who lead the points earlier in the season, now stands third in points with 256. Danny Shearer, who had a wild ride last weekend in the Sportsman 50 lapper and learned how it felt to be airborne, sits fourth in points with 184 followed by Justin Hall with 140 points.
Shane Held holds the points lead for the Open Wheel Modifieds. Held, who was the 2001 Open Wheel Modified Champion, sits 16 points over second place Matt Wheeler. But coming up fast and only 40 points behind Wheeler is Jason Boyd who has a number of wins under his belt. Boyd will be running the Goodyear Challenge 100 at Lakeland on Saturday.
Lynn Dicandio takes over fourth in points with his best finish of the season thus far last Friday night when he came in second. Glen Bradley sits fifth with 176 points but only 4 points behind Bradley is last week's first time feature winner Dave Riley. This will be a close battle for the rest of the season in the mods.
Tim "Missileman" McPhail already knows how it feels to be the Mini Stock Champion at Orlando SpeedWorld as he held the title in 2001. McPhail leads the points for the 2003 season with 352. Dick Laszlo sits second with 260 points and looking faster and better each race. Expect to see Laszlo in the Winner's Circle before the end of the season.
Sean "Weasel" Bass sits third in points with 224 and has a really good car if he can remember to reconnect the radiator hose. Last week he forgot and had to run home and repair his car for the feature event. Bass will race in the Florida Mini Stock Challenge race Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway.
Mike Williams has proven that his dad passed on a few of his skills to him in the way he drives his No. 32 Mini Stock. Mike sits fourth in points with 144 points. Rounding out the top five is Randy Blakeslee with 96 points.
The Super Stocks were off last Friday but return to action this Friday night with Cory Freed, the 2002 Super Stock Champion, leading the points with 348 points. Thirty two points behind Freed is Bob Wines with 316 points. Mike Soukup, Ron Whaley and Bill Cuddy round out the top five.
And for the kids this Friday night, a BIKE RACE. So kids bring your bikes and race for the trophy and special surprises.
Grandstands open at 6 p.m. with racing action at 8 p.m. Orlando SpeedWorld is located between SR50 and SR520 in Bithlo, Florida.
