UPM Modifieds Head Friday Show at Ocala Speedway

by Dave Westerman

The United Promoters Modified Tour hits the mid point of its inaugural season this Friday night with a 50-lap showdown at Ocala Speedway.

Each race in the Series so far has drawn an outstanding field of competitorsand the second race for the UPM tour at Ocala should prove to be no exception.

Clermont's Alan McCafferty took the first event at Ocala Speedway on March 28th and will be one of the favorites this Friday at his home track.

In the five races run to date there have been five different winners. Along with McCafferty, Tampa drivers John Gerstner and Rob Partelo, Dwayne Dempsey of St. Petersburg, and Tallahassee's Mike Johnson have all picked up UPM tour wins and are expected in the field.

Other top drivers expected include current Ocala Speedway points leader David Baxley of Anthony, Clermont drivers John Foerg, Mark Emberson and Dan Hammerbeck, Tampa's Jeremy Gerstner, Red Vann and Johnnie "The Rat" Newsome, Starke's J.F. McClellan and Larry Martin of Gainesville.

Other possible entries include Mike Bennett, Jamie Tinkham, Chris Fadling, John Kahl, Gary Southard, Kevin Durden, and Larry Goolsby who will make his Modified debut at Ocala Friday in a new Maguire's Racing entry.

Also on tap this Friday will be the Diamond H Air & Heat Sportsman cars, the K-Country Street Stocks, Mini Stocks and Four Cylinder Stocks.

With just three weeks to go in the first half of the point season, races are still close in all divisions.

Pit gates open at 4PM, Grandstands at 6PM, UPM tour qualifying is set for 7:30PM and racing begins at 8PM.
