Action will be HOT as drivers go for DOUBLE points Friday night at SpeedWorld | by Jane Smith
Bithlo, Fla (May 27, 2003) "Double" points will make the racing action this Friday night at Orlando SpeedWorld hot and heavy. With some classes very close in points, double points can break or make a new leader.
It looks like Derrick Wood is on a streak in the Bandolero Bandit division. Wood has won the last few features and heads the points wtih 348 points. Gerald White, Jr. moved up to second over Matt Bowers and Chad Atkins who are tied with 240 points each in third and fourth. Matthew Jarrett runs fifth with 220 points.
Kevin Henry leads the points for the Bandolero Young Guns with 364 points. Sixty points behind Henry is second place Brandon Thompson. Troy Atkins and Scott Jarrett are tied in third and fourth with 240 points followed by Sam Watts with 212 poitns.
Last week at SpeedWorld you were not seeing double as twin McLeod Motorsports Super Lates ran in the Super Late Model feature. In one was B.J. McLeod, point leader in the Super Lates. In the second car was second in points Rusty Ebersole. Ebersole won the heat race but McLeod won the feature and now has a 20 point lead over Ebersole. Ricky Wood was absent from the Super Late Model field last weekend but you can be sure he will be there for double points. Wood stands third in points with 140 points. Moving into fourth last week was David Hart who now has 84 points. Ronnie Roach runs fifth in points with 76 points.
Richard Hight holds the lead for the Sportsman division with 307 points.followed by Doug Samion with 252 points. Michael Albert won last week and now stands third in points with 240. Justin Hall comes in fourth with 128 points followed by Erick Traves in fifth with 112 poitns. Both Hall and Traves suffered severe damage to their Sportsmen a few weeks ago but hopefully they will make it out this Friday night for double poitns.
The Open Wheel Modifieds were off last week but return to action this Friday night with Shane Held in the points lead with 216 points. Matt Wheeler runs second with 188 but coming up fast is Jason Boyd who now stands in third with 152 points. Glen Bradley comes in fourth with 116 points with fifth place Frank Polly only four points behind Bradley with 112. But sixth place Lynn Dicandio is only 4 points behind Polly and seventh place Dave Riley is only 8 points behind Dicandio. Talking about tight points, this could go anyway still.
Last Friday night the regular Mini Stock division was off as the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series ran a 50 lap feature. But this Friday the Minis return with Tim "Missileman" McPhail in the points lead with 232 points. Dick Laszlo, our only Mini Truck, has moved into second with 152 points, 20 points more than third place Sean Bass. Chad Pierce still stands in fourth after his last win on double points night with the #30 Duck car of Rick Bristol. Pierce stands at 80 points with fifth place Randy Blakeslee coming in fifth with 64 points.
Cory Freed leads the Super Stock division with 292 points, 40 points over second place Bob Wines. Billy Cuddy stands third with 196 points followed by Ron Whaley in fourth with 176 points. Mike Soukup rounds out the top five with 168 points.
