Sunbelt Super Late Model Series hits the 3/8th Mile Orlando SpeedWorld this Friday | by Jane Smith
Bithlo, Fla (April 30, 2003) - Race six for the Team FASCAR Sunbelt Super Late Model Series will run the 3/8th mile, 18 degree banking fast track of Orlando SpeedWorld this Friday night, May 2.
Going into race number 6, Wayne Anderson leads the points by 111 over second place James Powell. Jonny Kay, Mac Johnson, and Jay Middleton fill out the top five. Newcomer Fain Skinner sits in sixth followed by Mike Bresnahan, Michael Williams, Brock Oglesby and Eric Black.
Michael Williams, 2002 Sunbelt Super Late Model Champion, was hurt at race 5 at USA International and more than likely will not race at Orlando. But expect to see Powell, Anderson, Black, Skinner, Middleton, Willoughby, Almirola, Froehlich, and the current points leader for the Orlando SpeedWorld Super Late Models B.J. McLeod.
The 125 lap race will be the first of two races run at SpeedWorld for the Sunbelt Super Late Model Series with the second race on August 1. Pit gates will open at 3 p.m. with tech starting at 3:30 p.m. Practice for the Super Lates will begin at 4 p.m. with qualifying at 7 p.m. depending on car counts could be earlier.
Also on the program will be the Legends who put on one heck of a show whenever they come. Expect to see 25 or more in the line-up.
Derrick Wood leads the Bandolero Bandits division with 188 points over Gerald White, Jr., Matt Bowers, Chad Atkins, and Matt Martin. Kevin Henry leads the Young Guns Bandoleros over Sam Watts, Brandon Thomson, Troy Atkins, and Scott Jarrett. These young and upcoming stars will give the fans plenty of action Friday night also.,
Doug Samion has won every Sportsman feature so far this year and leads the points by 41 over Richard Hight, Michael Albert, Justin Hall and Erick Traves. Each week this class seems to grow larger with more determination than most for that one goal - to beat Doug Samion.
Matt Wheeler leads in the points for the Open Wheel Modifieds but only 4 points behind Wheeler is Shane Held, the 2001 Modified Champion. Coming in at third is Jason Boyd, 2003 Modified Champion at SpeedWorld, over Glen Bradley and Dave Riley who is tied with Darren Gould for fifth place at 84 points each. Bradley recently won his first race at SpeedWorld and is eager for the second one to be under his belt.
The Mini Stocks are off this weekend due to the Florida Mini Stock Challenge Series race at Citrus County Speedway. But when they return the following week, it is Tim "Missileman" McPhail who leads the points over Sean Bass, Dick Lazslo, Chad Pierce, and Pedie Allison.
Cory Freed, the 2002 Super Stock Champion, sits atop the Super Stock points with 172 but only 8 points stand between Freed and second place Bob Wines. Billy Cuddy comes in at third with only a 8 point difference between Wines and Cuddy.
Mike Soukup stands in fourth place with 140 points, just 12 points more than fifth place Ron Whaley. This class will be fighting it until the end keeping the points very close and very action packed.
Strictly Stocks will also be on the card for Friday night. Grandstands will open at 6 p.m., Sunbelt Super Late Model qualifying at 7 p.m. depending on car count, and racing action will begin at 8 p.m.
