Orlando SpeedWorld to host "The Orlando Predators Night" as FASTRUCKS race April 4th | by Jane Smith
Bithlo, Fla - After two rainouts, Orlando SpeedWorld opened to packed pits and cheering fans. This week's events will definitely please race fans.
This Friday, April 4, all divisions will run except for the Sportsman division. But on the card for the night's events are the FASTRUCKS and Legends. The FASTRUCKS will present "The Orlando Predators Night" with some of the team's players, cheerleaders, and the Predators Patrol.
Radio stations 101.1 FM, Real Radio 104.1 FM or 740 AM will host ticket give-aways for this Friday's event with one lucky pair of winners to be crowned "Grand Marshalls of the Predator Night." The winners will get a ride in the Official Pace Truck, start the race plus throw the green flag and present the trophy to the winning driver in Victory Circle.
Ronnie Roach leads the points in the Super Late Models with his win last week followed by Rusty Ebersole, B.J. McLeod, Chad Pierce and Ricky Wood in the top five. The season has just started and the battle has only begun for the 2003 Championship.
Frank Polly returned to SpeedWorld in the Open Wheel Modifieds with one goal in mind, to win. Polly did just that last Friday night as he lead the field to the checkered. Jared Allison stands second in points with a very strong chance of being number one also. Shane Held, Rusty Perdue and Matt Wheeler fill in the rest of the top five in points.
Lynn Dicandio traded in his Late Model for an Open Wheel Modified and he made his debut last weekend taking seventh. Watch for many more new modifieds to come out in the next few weeks as drivers are putting the finishing touches on many.
Doug Samion, who left Sportsman racing and drove the Goodyear Challenge Late Model Series last year, has returned to SpeedWorld to try for yet another Sportsman Championship. Samion won both the rainout feature and last week's feature putting him in a good starting position for 2003.
Ron Whaley was "a man on a mission" as he also took both rainout feature and feature for the Super Stock division taking the points lead as we go into week number two. This class seems to grow very fast with a number of drivers who can fit the bill of the 2003 Champion.
Returning to defend his 2002 Championship young Cory Freed took second in last week's feature and fourth in the rainout feature. Freed plans on a good year and possibily a second championship this year.
Sean Bass won the opening night's Mini Stock feature leading the points for the first time in his racing career. 2001 Champion Tim "Missileman" McPhail runs second in points and has high hopes of winning back his championship he lost to Bobby Orr last year.
Although the Mini Stock division was low in car count last week, expect more and more to show up weekly. Dick Laszlo has his truck ready and will race this Friday along with Pedie Allison who blew his engine in practice last Friday.
The 2003 season has just begun at Orlando SpeedWorld and with all the new track improvements and new pits that are being put in, expect to see more and more cars and fans as we race into the year.
Orlando SpeedWorld races every Friday night at 8 p.m.
