Lincoln Electric Welders Increases support of grassroots racing

by Bill Catania
CLEVELAND, Ohio (March 26, 2003) - Lincoln Electric, the leading manufacturer of arc welding, and cutting equipment, has increased its commitment to grassroots racing by becoming the newest Associate Sponsor of the Valvoline Cup National Driver Points Championship. Lincoln Electric has been named as the official Welder, Plasma Cutter, and Cutting Torch of the Valvoline Cup through 2005.

Through its partnership with Valvoline Cup, Lincoln will feature a quality line-up of welders including TIG, and MIG welders, Plasma Cutting packages, Oxy Fuel Cutting Torches and Racing Regulators. “We are excited to be a part of a racing program that reaches so many facets of racing”, stated Lincoln Electric Motorsports Director Carl Peters. “We have enjoyed our increased involvement in motorsports over the past several seasons, and the Valvoline Cup is a logical next step for us to continue building awareness of our welding and cutting products.”

Valvoline Cup participants will receive exclusive discounts on a broad array of Lincoln products. Competitors can take advantage of these discounts through local Lincoln Electric distributors. Valvoline Cup participants will also receive an invitation to attend, at a discount, the Lincoln Electric Motorsports Welding School, which offers a hands-on approach to the most common, and important techniques utilized in building and maintaining racing equipment.

“Lincoln Electric has been a great partner of our Winston Cup team, not only providing a superior product for us to use in the shop, but rock solid advice and consultation on metal fabrication techniques and applications”, stated Mikel Hartman, Director of Valvoline Motorsports. ”We welcome their participation in the Valvoline Cup, and are happy to provide a top notch partner for our over 86,000 Valvoline Cup participants.”

The Valvoline Cup is only the latest evidence of Valvoline's support of grassroots racers. Valvoline is a contingency sponsor in NHRA drag racing and for the past six years has been the No. 1 choice of motor oil by NHRA sportsmen-class racers at NHRA pro events. For the past 17 years, Valvoline has sponsored the national championships for the Sports Car Club of America, The SCCA Valvoline Runoffs®. Valvoline has shown its support on all levels of motorsports during 2002, named as the official motor oil of Daytona International Speedway, the Daytona 500 and of the United States Auto Club (USAC).

Drivers and others interested in the Valvoline Cup can call 1-877-302-0290, e-mail headquarters@valvolinecup.com or visit http://www.valvolinecup.com for more information and to register.
