P&H Minepro Services to Sponsor FASTRUCKS at New Smyrna | by Dave Westerman
P&H MinePro Services, a division of P&H Mining equipment, based out of Bowling Green, FL and sponsor of current FASTRUCK point leader Tommy King of Bartow, has signed on as sponsor for the seventh FASTRUCK race of the season to be held Saturday night in support of the Hooters Pro Cup Series race at the high-banked half-mile New Smyrna Speedway.
P&H MinePro services mining operations throughout the Southeast and provides walking draglines that are used at phosphate mines inFlorida.
The parent company, P&H Mining Equipment of Milwaukee, WI is a global leader in the manufacture and service of large excavating and drilling machines used to mine copper, coal, phosphate, iron ore, gold, silver, potash, even diamonds. in fact, ninety percent of the world's surface mines utilize P&H equipment.
The walking draglines that P&H MinePro Services provides and services here in Florida are among the largest mobile units in the world. A dragline stands 22 stories high, is 400 feet long, weighs 5700 tons, and its bucket takes bites the size of a four car garage!
The trophy to be given to the winner of Saturday evening's FASTRUCK event will be unique featuring a replica die-cast model of a walking dragline on a wood base.
Fifty P&H Mining customers from around the country will be attending a dragline owners convention in Orlando and will be among the crowd assembled Saturday at New Smyrna Speedway and one of them will be chosen as Grand Marshall for the event getting the chance to say those four great words to crank up the action, then moving to the flagstand to throw the initial green flag to the field of FASTRUCKS.
"We're going to treat these folks to some good old Southern short track racin'," said Tommy King. "After the race, we're going to have one heck of a victory lane celebration with champagne and everything. I just hope I'm the one that gets to pop the cork," he said.
King, a Veteran who served in the United States Army's 3rd Infantry Division, currently on the front line in Iraq, will carry the Division's blue and white patch on the side of his truck and on his driving uniform to honor the brave soldiers who are fighting right now to protect our freedoms.
King's dad, legendary Central Florida short-tracker Eddie King and his business Eddie King's Automotive Sales and Service on Main street in Bartow, have put up $100 for the evening's fast qualifier.
A $100 Hard charger Award has also been put up courtesy of Southern Road Builders who are the sponsor of Keith Roggen's Hooters Pro Cup car. Roggen, of Winter Haven, is well known for his exploits in the Mini Stocks in Central Florida before moving on to the NASCAR Dash Series and now on to the Hooters Series to gain experience in the heavier cars in hopes of moving on to the NASCAR big show.
Around 35 FASTRUCKS are expected to do battle at New Smyrna. Todd Bontrager of Sarasota, who took both season-opening events for the FASTRUCKS during New Smyrna's World Series in February but has not run with the Series since, will be back in the fold this week along with Shane Russ of Myakka City who won the last race which was also held at New Smyrna.
