Florida Pro Series Returns to Charlotte | Claude Lewis
PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- The Florida Pro Late Model Series will hold its first race of 2003 Saturday night at Charlotte County Speedway, a 3/8-mile paved oval in Punta Gorda.
The 100-lapper wil pay $2,500 to win.
The series director said he expects 20 cars to show up to kick off the new season. The Florida Pro season was originally scheduled to begin March 1 at Lake City, but rain postponed that show to May 10.
The Director said the Florida Pro drivers are looking forward to racing on the new racing surface at Charlotte County Speedway. The track was repaved over the winter.
Also scheduled are two 50-lap features for open wheel modifieds and sportsman.
Open wheel modified ran its first race of the season at CCS March 15. It was a wreck-filled affair. Who will win this week is anybody?s guess.
The sportsman points chase is tight with Jeremy Goddard, Kay Jackson and Phil Johnson leading the way. This should also prove very interesting.
The gates will open at 4 p.m. and qualifying will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Admission is $15 for adults, $12 for senior citizens and $7 for children ages 11 and under.
Charlotte County Speedway is located off Exit 161 of I-75 on Piper Road in Punta Gorda. For more information, call 575-RACE (7223). Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
