FASTRUCKS Gearing up for Double Header Weekend | by Jane Smith Samsula, Fla - FASTRUCKS, sanctioned by Team FASCAR, has a busy weekend this week as they do double duty when they help open the 2003 racing season at Orlando SpeedWorld and New Smyrna Speedway.
FASTRUCKS, one of the newest traveling series and a very fast growing series, will race Friday night, March 14, at Orlando SpeedWorld. Then they will do a turn-around and head for New Smyrna Speedway on Saturday, March 15.
With four races under their belt since the beginning of 2003, Tommy King leads the points going into race 5 at Orlando SpeedWorld. Filling out the top ten in points are Wendell Bristol, Jeff Firestine, Tim Shaffner, Marty Wolf, Paul Grynewicz, Jeff Guibault, Graham McCowey, Bobby Owens and Eddie Moran.
Todd Bontrager, driver of the popular #8 Dale Earnhardt Jr. look-alike truck, won both races at the World Series of Asphalt Stock Car Racing on February 14 and 15. Then it was Jeff Firestine showing the way for the win at Citrus County Speedway. Then last weekend Bobby Owens, a truck champion already in Alaska, took the win at Bronson Motor Speedway.
FASTRUCKS will be showing off their newest sponsor at Orlando SpeedWorld as they introduce the Barfly to the fans. A Barfly is more or less a go-kart but with a bar stool for a seat. It goes around 25 mph until the nitrus kicks in and then picks up speed to 45 mph. Something that should give the fans a definite thrill.
A good field of trucks are expected both nights with the F.A.S.T. Sprints joining in the fun on Saturday night at New Smyrna Speedway.
Racing begin at 8 p.m. at Orlando SpeedWorld and at 7:30 p.m. at New Smyrna Speedway. Have an opinion on this story? Post a message on our Message Board! or send a letter to the editor!
