MOTORCYCLE DEMOLITION DERBY RETURNING TO CHARLOTTE COUNTY SPEEDWAY | PUNTA GORDA, Fla. -- It defies logic, or common sense for that matter, but it is indeed entertaining.
Charlotte County Speedway has scheduled the return of the motorcycle demolition derby for the second week of the new season -- Saturday night, March 1.
It’s been quite a few years since the motorcycle demo derby has appeared at the Punta Gorda paved oval.
The object is quite simple -- motorcyclists ram into each other, knocking them silly. Riders are allowed to keep going as long as they’re still on their motorcycles and the engines are still running.
Volunteers will be picked from the crowd. In the past, the winner has received a trophy and T-shirt. A cash prize may be thrown in this time around.
The motorcycle demolition derby will be a part of a racing program that includes late models, outlaw modifieds, 4-cylinder front wheel drives, super stocks, thunder trucks and raod warriors.
Racing begins at 7 p.m.
Charlotte County Speedway, a newly paved 3/8-mile semi-banked oval, is located on Piper Road in the Airport Industrial Park in Punta Gorda. It is off Exit 161 (old 28) of I-75.
