Orr Grabs Career Best Late Model Finish on Emotional Night | by Rick Bristol
New Smyrna Beach, Fla - On the night that 37 of Florida's best super late model drivers gathered to honor his dad, Pete Orr, young Bobby Orr took his career best late model finish.
The evening was full of remembering one of Florida's best racers Pete Orr, racers all over the pits telling stories of the times and the lessons learned from Pete.
A great field of cars was on hand for the Pete Orr Memorial Orange Blossom 125. Terri Orr and her daughter Lisa gave the command to start engines and Bobby Orr threw the green to start the race.
In the end it was veteran Wayne Anderson who took the win.
"I was beaten many times by Pete Orr and am proud to win this race," Anderson said, "I want this trophy to go in the front office, like the Governor's Cup trophy, for everyone to see each year the driver that wins this prestigious race."
Pete Orr's brother Tom, and the rest of the family enjoyed the event from the skybox with the invitation of Robert Hart and Terry Roberts of FASCAR.
Later, Bobby Orr started from the pole for the Late Model feature and ran a great race, leading early before veteran Larry Osteen got by Orr stayed in touch with the leader while dueling with Mike Murphy and opened up an advantage near the end, could not catch Osteen.
Orr took second place -- a career best in his young late model career.
Orr was the 2002 Orlando SpeedWorld Mini Stock track Champion.
It was an emotional night for the whole family but a night of celebration for a man who gave us great racing and great friendships, and who will never be forgotten.
The Orr family thanks FASCAR and the staff for doing so much to make the night a truly enjoyable night. And a special thanks to all the drivers that came to support the family and to race in Pete's memory. Have an opinion on this story?
