Hialeah Speedway Awards Banquet

Pembroke Pines, Fla - Hialeah Speedway honored its 2002
champions at an awards picnic at C.B. Smith Park here
Sunday afternoon.

A nice crowd enjoyed a vast array of grilled goodies
with awards following. Veteran Gary McGoron picked
up his third late model sportsman crown while long
time compaigner T.C. McElyea garnered his first street
stock championship. Young Tommy Styer easily copped
the mini stock title, his first, and in the process
notched a season high 16 feature wins. Harvey Freeman
claimed his first ever cyclone crown while the
deactivated pure stock honors fell to Frank Kelliher,
Victor Leo was the best of the figure 8 runners for
the year.

The speedway will be under new management for 2003 with
Chuck Arnold being named the general manager. The new
season, the 49th consecutive at the Miami area oval,
will get under way on Feb. 22 following open test
sessions on Feb. 1 and 8.
