"I'm
noticing a turn of the tide on racing Web sites like Florida's
Karnac.com, the gathering place for the most dedicated race
fans in the state." -Orlando Sentinel
Orlando, FL (November 13, 2009) You could tell the night air was dropping fast as you saw drivers and fans going to their cars for a jacket. Hot chocolate was flowing as well as hot coffee and boiled peanuts but it was great having cool weather finally. No more sweating too death but a jacket and maybe a throw blanket was in order Friday night at SpeedWorld.
It was the final stock car race of the year, Championships were on the line. Some went home disappointed, others were jumping for joy.
Winning the Super Late Model Championship was Jared Allison. Allison, who will be a first time daddy any day now, also made his dirt racing debut this year in a Modified at Volusia Speedway Park. Allison proved to his fans not only can he wheel a Super Late but also a dirt Modified as well as an asphalt Modified. Allison, who took over Chad Pierce's seat in David Debelius's #38 Modified, won his first race in David's car tonight.
Pierce, who hurt his hand so bad that the doctors would not let him race was very pleased at Allison's victory but also disappointed that he could not race since he and Mark Emberson were in a tight battle for the Modified Championship. Emberson took the Championship due to Pierce's hurt hand and the doctor not allowing him to race otherwise it would have been a battle to the end. Not the way that Mark wanted to win his first Modified Championship but just one of those things that happen in life.
Billy Cuddy not only won the Super Stock 50 tonight at SpeedWorld but also the 2009 Super Stock Championship. Cuddy and David Gould were also in a close points battle but Gould had mechanical problems tonight and was unable to really compete with Cuddy for the Championship.
Alan Bruns won the Late Model Championship in spite of Todd Allen's win. Bruns went into tonight's race with a 44 point lead over Allen. Allen won tonight's race with Bruns coming in fourth but giving him enough points to claim the 2009 Late Model Championship.
Bobby Simcox topped the Sportsman class but it was Andy Nicholls taking home the Championship. Anthony Sergi won the Truck race but it was Ben Kennedy taking home that Championship.
David Russell and Pedie Allison went into tonight's Mini Stock race tied with 336 points each. Russell won tonight's feature race and gained the 2009 Championship. Allison was able to get to third but was never really a challenge for Russell. Allison had some mechanical issues.
William Hindman finished last in the Strictly Stock feature but went home the 2009 Strictly Stock Champion of Orlando SpeedWorld. Hindman went into tonight's race with a 168 point lead over second place Neil Kirby.
In spite of Alex Kempf's bad night at SpeedWorld, Kempf gained enough points to take the 2009 Legend Championship at SpeedWorld. Kempf was blackflagged for rough driving although the incident with him and Brandon Thomson looked purely like a racing incident, Russ Thomson hit Kempf under caution on purpose. The officials called the incident between Kempt and Brandon Thomson as rough driving and Kempf was flagged off the track. Critter Saille took his first ever feature win in the Legends class at SpeedWorld tonight.
Michael Held went into tonight's Bandolero Bandit race with a 4 point lead over Tanner Cornwell. Tanner took the win but Held was crowned the 2009 Bandolero Bandit Champion at SpeedWorld due to Tanner's going on the big track and agressive drivng. Mark Hooven took the Bandolero Young Gun win tonight and the 2009 Championship.
Orlando SpeedWorld will be closed next Friday night but re-open on Friday, November 27th with Crash-A-Rama. For more information on Orlando SpeedWorld, go to www.orlandospeedworld.org.
