It was another great night of racing at the Clay by the Bay as over 100 cars hit the track with 6 classes of racing.
The Street Stocks were the first class to run their 15- lap feature event. Points leader Donnie Reed claimed his 4th feature win of the season. Reed started up front as was able to hold off James Hook and Buck Skinner for the win. Hook finished 2nd and picked up his 5th top-5 of the season. Buck Skinner had a wild ride and finished with a strong 3rd place showing. Tim Spencer, Sr. earned his 2nd top-5 of the season with a 4th place finish. Kevin Silvia rounded out the top-5, which was his first of the season. Reed and Hook won the heats.
Eleven cars took the green flag in the Florida Old Time Modifieds feature event. Roger Herbach and Lars Amundsen battled for the lead as the race came to the finish. Herbach hailing from Palmetto took the win in his 1940 Ford. Amundsen finished 2nd. Richie Iversen in a 1935 Chevy finished 3rd. Johnny Gonzalez and Gary Ricco rounded out the top-5. Don Land won the only heat race.
The Florida Mini Sprints made their return to East Bay Raceway Park as twenty-one cars started their twenty five-lap feature event. Tim O’Donnell was victorious last time the series was at the Clay by the Bay. O’Donnell was able to hold of the charge of David Pleaugh and Harold Matthews to take the win. Pleaugh finished 2nd. Matthews wound up 3rd. Jessie Teed and Eddie Moss, Jr. rounded out the top-5. Teed and Steve Crabtree won the heat races.
In the Top Gun Sprints main event, twenty-six cars started the event. It would be a race of attrition and caution flags as only ten cars were running at the end of the twenty five-lap feature event. A major incident in turn 1 involving twelve cars occurred on the third attempt to start the race. As a result there was a 15-minute red flag to clear the track. Five cars were sent to the pits as a result including A.J. Maddox who dominated his heat race.
Once a clean start occurred the racing was fast and furious on the track as Gene Lasker jumped out to the early lead. Lasker lead many of the early laps holding off the challenge of Tim George. Lap traffic became a factor late in the race. Jeff Van Dusen hung around in the top 5 all night long after being involved in a early caution. Van Dusen passed Lasker in turn 4 coming to the white flag. Van Dusen was able to hold off Lasker on the final lap and take the dramatic win. He went to the scales before Victory Lane and that part was good, but the tech man threw out the win due to illegal heads.
A lengthy teardown process ended at 2:30 a.m. with Lasker declared the winner. Tim George, who had crossed the line third, saw his finish tossed out with an illegal crankshaft. The official finish was Lasker, Mark Ruel Jr., Mike Schroeder, D.J. Peeples and Top Gun point leader Ryan Partin. Maddox, Lasker and Troy Knowles won the heat races.
In the Motorstats.com 4 cylinder bombers nineteen cars took the green flag for the 15-lap feature event. Robert Kissam was the winner; it was his third of the season. Frank Miller captured 2nd place. Curtis Book was 3rd. Jimmy O’Dell finished 4th. Dalton Epps picked up his first top-5 of the season with a 5th place finish. Roberto Morfin, Jr. and Kever Raulerson won the heat races.
To wrap the up the night the Dirt Daubers were in action again with Scotty Williams taking the win. Gene Lasker finished 2nd. Rock Brown, DB Hogwaller and Randy Tyler rounded out the top-5.
