Barberville, FL (October 10, 2009) Tonya Laporta proved once again that he is the "King" of 4 Cylinder Challengers as he took both wins in their twin features taking home $500 in his pocket.
In the first of two features, it was Michael Stein on the pole with Laporta on the outside pole. On the green, Laporta jumped to the front followed by Davey Wolf, RJ Glaser, Casey Feaster, and Stein. Dalton Strehle, who had to start in the rear of the field for being dq'd in tech after the heat races for an aluminum pulley, quickly worked his way to the front and by lap 3, was running in sixth place.
Caution was thrown on lap 3 as Dustin Childers was sideways coming off 4. Alan Scott had no place to go and hit the parked Childers. Neither driver was hurt as Scott took his car into the pits for crew attention and Childers stays out. On the restart, it is Laporta on the inside, Wolf on the outside as Feaster is forced to go into the pits with a flat rear tire. Scott returns to the track. Thomas Parker does a 360 at the bottom of turns 1 and 2 but is able to continue not bringing out the caution however, with no lap down, the caution comes out for Mark Comitale who hit the tire at the bottom of turn 4 at the track entrance. Comitale is not hurt but is done for the night.
On the restart, Laporta takes the point over Wolf, Strehle, Glaser and Parker. Lap 7 sees the yellow once again for Brian Smith who spun at the bottom of turn 2. The field is realigned for the restart as Laporta once again leads the way over Strehle, Glaser, Wolf and Parker. Lap 17 sees Glaser spin on the backstretch bringing out the caution. Officials notice that Glaser's window net is down and quickly pull him to the side to reattach it.
Laporta once again leads the way on the restart however no lap was taken as Dustin Childers has found himself against the turn 2 wall. The final restart sees Laporta leading the way over Strehle, Feaster, Glaser and Parker. Laporta takes the win.
Justin Merry had the pole for the Thunder Stock feature but it was Robert Schrunk who quickly took the point over Eddie Tovet, Merry, Donnie Nobles, and Luke Sadler. Nobles passes Merry for third as he sets his eyes on Tovet in second. Nobles is able to pass Tovet and take over second Merry spins in turns 1 and 2 but is able to continue without bringing out the yellow. Schrunk still leads the way but is finding it harder and harder to fight off the hard charging Nobles. Finally Nobles makes the move, it works, and he takes over the point followed by Schrunk, Strehle, Sadler, and Tom Hughes.
Hughes puts the heat on Sadler and takes over fourth as Sadler settles into fifth. The yellow comes out on lap 9 for Merry who has spun in turns 1 and 2. It is now halfway and a single file restart as Nobles leads the way over Strehle, Schrunk, Sadler and Hughes. However, with a lap down in the books, the caution comes back out for Nobles who has spun in turns 1 and 2. Officals can't decide if Nobles has spun on his own or had help from Strehle but Strehle waves Nobles back to the front and everyone agrees with the decision.
Nobles leads the way on the restart but on lap 10 gets very loose in turns 1 and 2 as Strehle takes over the lead. However, the caution comes out for Sadler who has spun at the bottom of turns 3 and 4 giving the point back to Nobles. Nobles holds on and takes the checkered over Randy Strehle, Matthew Schell, Tom Hughes, and Luke Sadler.
In the final 4 Cylinder Challenger race, it is Leonard Underwood, Jr. on the pole but it is Davey Wolf who gets the point followed by Glaser, Underwood, Strehle, and Parker. Strehle passes Underwood and takes over third with Parker taking over fourth and Underwood settling into fifth. But Laporta, who had to start in the very rear, is making his charge and now runs fourth. Alan Scott hits the turn 2 guardrail but is able to continue without bringing out the caution.
Wolf finds his hands full of a very hard charging Glaser as they go side-by-side for the point. But on lap 6, Wolf hits the wall but is able to continue but can no longer lead the way as Glaser takes over the point followed by Wolf, Laporta, Strehle, and Parker. Lap 7 sees Casey Feaster slow on the frontstretch and against the wall. Feaster is able to refire his machine but withdraws from the race ending his good night and he brings out the caution.
On the restart, it is Glaser on the inside, Wolf on the outside as Glaser takes the point over Laporta, Strehle, Wolf, and Parker. Wolf puts pressure on Strehle and retakes third as Strehle goes to fourth. Strehle and Wolf switch positions a number of times as Glaser continues to lead the way. However, don't count your chickens before they hatch. Last lap, Laporta makes his move, makes it stick, and takes the checkered over RJ Glaser, Dalton Strehle, Davey Wolf and Thomas Parker.
