Barberville, FL (September 12, 2009) In spite of all the efforts made by Volusia Speedway Park Officials and Staff and the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series staff, Mother Nature won tonight at Volusia Speedway Park.
"It wasn't a hard rain but a steady rain and we realized that there was just no way to have the track dry enough for the race. This was very disappointing since we had already rescheduled this race from September 5th and we had no other date to reschedule again," said General Manager Tonya Moschell.
"Ticket stubs from general admission for tonight's events will be honored on October 24th when the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series returns for the Late Model Fall Nationals. In addition, fans can use these rain checks for any event prior to that date, but no refund of the difference in ticket price will be given. Wristbands in the pits will be honored for any single event between now and October 24th. So hopefully everyone will keep their ticket stubs and bands and not throw them away since we will need them for proof that they were here tonight."
"It was funny, we had no rain at all. We got thru hot laps and had qualified ten Late Models before the drizzle started. We knew there was no other date to reschedule this race so everything was done to make tonight happen but the radar showed more on the way and much bigger."
Out of the ten cars that were able to qualify in the twenty seven car field, it was Dillon Wood from New Smyrna with the fastest time of 18.122. Only two other cars hit the 18 second time which was Mark Whitener of Middleburg and Brandon Dewitt of Marven.
Twenty Seven Late Models were in the field: #26W Dillon Wood, New Smyrna #21Q Chris Freeman, Enterprise #1 John Koller, Grand Island #5W Mark Whitener, Middleburg #7 Jason Fitzgerald, Middleburg #41K John Kellum, Jacksonville #2 Brand DeWitt, Marven #58 Shane Williams, Deland (Winner at Ocala Speedway September 11) #00R Wayne Reutimann, Zephryhills #53 John Rankin, Ocala #32P Jeff Phipps, Longwood #23 Lawton Minchew, DeLeon Springs #47 Tyler Ivey, Tallahassee #25 Donnie Chappell, Jacksonville #N0C Andy Schell, Pierson #07 Ivedent Lloyd, Ocala #98C Kent Corbin, Bunnell #98B Casey Barrow #00 Russell Brown, Jr. #16M Stanton Mills, St. Augustine #101 Keith Nosbisch, Valrico #145 Jason Davis, Hawthorne #5 Johnny Collins, Jacksonville #17J Joe Kump, Lake Helen #46P Darell Padgett, Jacksonville #1025 Bubba Clem #17 Richard Ferry, Macclenny
The United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series will return to Volusia Speedway Park on October 24th for the Late Model Fall Nationals. The next event for the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series will be October 23rd, the day before the Fall Nationals, at Ocala Speedway for Florida State Late Model All-Star Championship Round One.
Next Saturday night, September 19th, it will be Sportsman, Modified, Street Stock, Thunder Stock, 4-Cylinder Challenger, and Mini Stocks for $500 to win. The 8-1 makeup event for Mini-Stocks will be attempted for a 3rd time. General admission is $10.00 and racing starts at 7:30 p.m.
