|
BARBERVILLE, FL – August 3, 2009 — By Tonya Moschell
More than 100 cars and 16 Dachshunds were on hand for the 2nd Annual Barberville Wiener Nationals on Saturday August 1. A strong storm shortened the stock car racing program for the evening, but not until all feature lineups were set for five racing divisions, the Wiener National races were completed, and the Mini-Stock feature was on the track.
All five feature events for Saturday, August 1 are being rescheduled for the upcoming weeks.
A strong showing of Dachshunds took to the Volusia Speedway front stretch for the 2nd Annual Wiener Nationals events. As a large crowd of fans lined the fence, two qualifying heat races were run with the top four from each heat earning a starting position in the feature race. Heat race winners were “Willy” owned by the Linebarier family and the 2008 winner, “Cena” owned by the Jamie Herceg. Willy came home the overall winner in the feature event, followed by “Doc”, owned by Ashlie and “Lacy” owned by Gracie Jankowski. Trophies were awarded to the top three feature finishers. Heat race winners received toys and all participants took home treat bags.
Volusia Speedway returns to racing action this Saturday, August 8 with Junior Night. Dales and Juniors are admitted for $8 with ID and National Guard members will be admitted for $5. Makeup feature events for the Taylor Racing Products Sportsman and Daytona Sportswear Street Stock classes will be added to the Fastlane Five racing program that includes full shows for Taylor Racing Products Sportsman, Budweiser Modified, Daytona Sportswear Street Stock, Thunder Stock and Aerotec Aluminum 4-Cyl Challengers.
