The sky was heavily overcast and the Eastbay crew began the evening with a heavy heart after losing one of its own, Whit Holley. Holley, a long time track announcer and former driver himself passed away July 4th after several long-term illnesses. The racing would carry on in its usual spectacular fashion in remembrance of the Eastbay veteran.
The Outlaw 4’s began the evening with a 1st time winner in Mickey Wright in the 9 car. It was her 1st Feature win and came over a tough field of competitors including Brian Danforth who finished 2nd, #75 Stephen Hohlbaugh who finished 3rd and Brittany Yates and Art Gulvin who crossed the stripe 4th and 5th. Wright also picked up the win in the heat race while Danforth and Hohlbaugh rounded out the top 3.
The Gagel Open-Wheel Modifieds was an unbelievable show that featured side-by action all around the track. Shane Burrows withstood several restarts and challenges from much of the field to hang on for his 2nd win of the 2009 racing season. Bruce Harvey battled from the 6th starting position to finish 2nd while the #64 of Austin Sanders who started way back in the 11th spot crossed the finish 3rd. Mathews won his heat race and Kyle Bronson was the winner of heat race #2.
The Street Stock Feature event was packed with a 22 car field that had a finish that wouldn’t be decided until the final lap. The 00B machine of Buck Skinner and Points Leader Donnie Reed were nose-to-tail the entire event until the final run off turn two when Skinner got into the back of Reed opening the door for the 1H car of Eddie Hill to snatch the victory from both drivers for his 1st win of the racing season. Buck Woodhouse finished 2nd, James Hook 3rd, Jarod Gay 4th and the 47x machine of Billy Carlbert, Jr. 5th. John Bradley and Alex Boerner both picked up wins in their heat races.
The Q Auto and Injury Attorney Limited Late Model Feature event was dominated by the #35 car of Tim Gay, picking up his 3rd victory of the year. He was followed by Forrest Gough in the #21 car, JR Prather, Jr. in the #007 machine, Alex Boener in the #15 and Ricky Land in the #66 car. John Bradley and Alex Boerner were winners in both of their heat races.
Another huge field of South Shore Auto Sales Late Models took to the “Clay by the Bay” for their 25 lap feature event that had another run by a veteran driver from Dover, Fl picking up his 1st win of the 2009 racing season. Wallace Peacock started back in the 9th position and sliced his way through the field to pick up a well deserved victory. Shan Smith from Dade City, Fl had a strong run to finish 2nd while Josh Peacock wound up 3rd. Jimmy Waldrop and David Pollen rounded out the top 5. Waldrop picked up the win in his heat race while Ted Erskine and Josh Peacock were winners in their respective heat races.
The Motorstats.com 4-Cylinder Bombers finished the evening with a 23 car Feature Event that would not disappoint the packed grandstands. Robert Kissam from Riverview collected his 2nd win of the season, crossing the stripe just in front of Curtis Book who finished 2nd. Championship Points leader Jim Baker hung on for a tough 3rd place run while Johnnie Alexander and Kelli Hill rounded out the top 5.
