Bo Hartley wins TBARA Feature Race at ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway
By: Tom Blakeley
June 6, 2009 Bradenton, FL. It was a great night of racing action at the ASA Sanctioned Desoto Super Speedway tonight. The big show of the night belonged to the real winged sprint cars of TBARA.
They started the night out with three heat races of 8 laps each. The winner of heat race number one was Larry Brazile in the #20 car followed by Dude Teate in the #0 car, in third place was David Steele in the #14 car.
The second heat race was won by Tommy Nichols in the #55 car, followed by Ben Fritz in the #16 car and taking third place was Mickey Kelpgens in the #78 car.
The third sprint heat race of the night was won by Joey Aguilar in the #52 car while Troy DeCaire in the #68 car took second and Dustin Perez in the #70 car took third place. Dustin Perez was the Desoto Super Speedway’s modified mini champion last year and it looks like sprint car racing is suiting him very well.
The feature race for the real sprint cars was a “doozy.” After the parade lap of 4 cars wide, they jumped into high action mode and never let up. The 30 lap race did not have one yellow flag, how is that for some great driving talent.
A field of 24 cars started the race and to end with no yellow flags is pretty incredible. Winning the feature event was Bo Hartley in his #3 car. David Steele took second place in the #14 car and Joey Aguilar in the #52 car took third. David Steele started in mid field and weaved his way to number 5 by the 10th lap. By the 15th lap Steele was in third place and on lap 23 he took 2nd place.
The race to the finish was extremely close and after having to negotiate some lap traffic on the final lap Steele had to settle for a second place finish and congratulate his buddy Bo Hartley on a well deserved victory. This was one awesome race and a great show for the fans.
Bandolero’s. The seven car field of Bandolero’s ran a 6 lap heat race to start the racing for the night. The heat race was won by Johnnie Varga in the #2 car. The feature race of 15 laps was won by Mark Hooven in the #17 car. Johnnie Varga in the #2 car took second place and D. Stratton in the #83 car took third place. The Bandolero’s put on a good show and raced real hard.
Rockem Sockem Bombers. The Rockem-Sockem bombers ran two heat races tonight. Winning the first heat race was Steve “The Hammer” Elder in the #42 car. Winning the second heat race was Jody “The Bad Boy” Collins in the 32 C orange crush car. The feature race was a 25 lap affair that started 10 cars and was a great race. Winning the race was Randy “Megan’s Dad’ Spicer in the #83 car and he had two feet to spare as Steve Elder was on his side for the last two laps. The fans loved it, the drivers loved it and the staff loved it. This was another incredible show by the Rockem-Sockem boys.
Legends. The Legends ran a 35 lap feature race tonight. The 18 car field made for an exciting race with lots of spins and bumps. Taking the checkered flag for the feature race was Alex Kemp in the #99 car. Gerald White Jr. in the # 38 car took second place with Justin Brown in the #8 car winning third place. It was a very competitive race that was full of excitement.
Street Stocks. The Street Stocks ran a 6 lap heat race which was won by Jimmie Best in the #67 car. Mark Peterson in the #73 car took second place. Third place was won by Dennis Wilson in the #42 car. The teams looked like they did quite a bit of adjusting and worked hard on their cars to dial them in for the feature race. The 25 lap feature race started six cars and was won by Robert Haygood in the #84 car. Taking a very close second was Duane Best in the #3 car and third place belonged to Jimmie Best in the #67 car. The street stock class looked especially fast tonight and ran a very good race.
Desoto Pro Trucks. The Desoto Pro Trucks ran two heat races tonight. The first heat race was won by Brent Huber in the #64 truck. The second heat race was won by Nick Hernandez in the #37 truck. The feature 35 lap race was won by John Sarppraicone Jr. in the #48 truck. J. R. Garcia III in the #13 truck took second place and Charlie Montgomery in the #12 truck took third place. It was a good race that had some spinouts and some minor damage accidents.
