Keith Butler Continues Hot Streak In Checkered Flag Sprints
|
The Checkered Flag Sprint Series (CFSS) returned to Charlotte County Motorsports Park on Saturday April 11, 2009 to run two heat races and a 30 lap feature race.
Scott Adema in the 67 car had the pole for the start of the first heat race with Keith Butler in the 19 car alongside in the outside pole position. Scott took the race lead and held onto it to take the heat win with Keith finishing in second place.
Randy Woodall in the 5W car had the pole for the second heat race, but opted to go to the rear after experiencing some handling issues. That gave the pole position to Mark Gimmler in the 51 car with the 22 of Dustin Henderson on the outside. David Slawiak in the 79 car pulled off the track after the hot laps but before the green flag. Mark took the race lead and the heat win while Gary Gimmler in his 29 car finished in second.
After a drivers introduction session, the cars were fired off and lined up for the start of the feature race. Jason Bradford in the 37 car had the pole with Randy Woodall in the 5W on the outside. On the first lap, several cars came together coming out of turn 2 bringing out the first caution.
All of the cars were able to stay running and the 79 car headed into the pits for a new tire, and then the cars lined up again for a full restart. On the second restart, the 22 driven by Dustin Henderson and the 51 of Mark Gimmler came together in turn one bringing out the second caution.
Both cars were able to restart the race, but while the caution flag was out, the 15JR of Geoff Styner pulled off the racetrack due to some damage that he incurred under the first caution. The cars lined up again for another full restart and the third time proved to be the charm and the cars got away cleanly with Scott Adema taking the race lead from his fourth place starting position. David Slawiak pulled the 79 car into the infield after only one lap due to damage that the car incurred in the first caution of the night.
On lap four, the 5W of Randy Woodall hit the wall coming out of turn two bringing out the third and final caution of the race. The car was unable to rejoin the race. The remaining cars got back to green flag racing with the 67 of Scott Adema in first place and the 19 of Keith Butler in second pulling away from the field.
Keith stayed on the back of Scott car for several laps like a hunter stalking his prey. As the cars came up to work through lapped traffic, Keith saw his chance and took the race lead on lap 20. Scott wasn’t able to reclaim the lead and Keith Butler won his third consecutive CFSS feature race.
Scott Adema finished in second place, Mark Gimmler in the 51 car was third, Gary Gimmler in the 29 car was fourth and Dustin Henderson in the 22 car rounded out the top five.
The staff and racers of the CFSS would like to thank everyone for their support and hope to see you at their next race which will be at Citrus County Speedway on April 25th. .
