Milum Victorious in East Bay Sprints, Nosbisch Wins Late Models

By Jason Loughren It was a perfect Spring night for racing on the Clay By the Bay. Fans packed the grandstand as around 100 cars hit the track at East Bay Raceway Park.
The Street Stocks were the first class to challenge the famous dirt of East Bay as 21 cars took the green flag in the 15-lap feature event. Thomas Pratt had the car to beat and quickly took the lead. Pratt had the dominant car and picked up his first feature win of the season. Donnie Reed finished 2nd. Buck Skinner started shotgun on the field and worked to a 3rd place finish. Buck Woodhouse finished 4th. Jeff Stewart picked up his first top-5 of the season with a 5th place finish. Pratt, Kevin Silva and Reed won the heats.
In the East Bay Sprints Rocky Sullivan started on the pole and lead the early laps. Sullivan’s night ended when he made contact with the turn 1 wall. Tim George assumed the lead at point and was in the top spot when a late caution flag waived with only two laps to go. Paulie Milum was lurking in second place when the green flag dropped for the 2-lap shootout. Milum passed George with 1-lap to go and took the win, his second of the young season. George finished 2nd. Tony Agin ran in the top-5 all-night and finished 3rd. Phillipp Pettay started 12th and finished 4th. Troy Knowles rounded out the top-5. Sullivan and Danny Jones won the heats.
Twenty-four “South Shore Auto Sales” Late Models took the green flag in their scheduled 25-lap feature event. The caution filled race saw Jack Nosbisch, Jr. assume the early lead. Nosbisch, Jr. was able to hold off the advances of Jeff Mathews on numerous restarts to take the win, his second in a row. Mathews finished 2nd. David Schmauss battled his way from a 21st starting position to a 3rd place finish. Travis Varnadore raced his way into the feature via the consolation race and placed 4th. Bobby Alexander, Sr. completed the top-5. Mathews, Ryan Mitchell and Jim Coursen were victorious in the heat races. Maxx Bennett won the consolation race. Bennett and Patrick Williams along with the previously mentioned Varnadore advanced to the feature based on their top-3 finishes in the consolation race.
In the Motorstats.com 4 Cylinder bombers Curtis Book captured the victory. It was Book’s first win of the season. He held off the hard charging Jim Baker for the win. The series points leader coming into the night was Baker, he finished 2nd. Roberto Morfin, Sr. had a strong run and lead many of the early laps, he finished 3rd. Roberto Morfin, Jr. finished 4th. Kyle Kruse was the 5th place finisher. George Handy, Morfin, Sr., and Book won the heats.
ASA sanctioned racing resumes at East Bay Raceway Park Saturday, April 11, 2009 at 6:30pm. The South Shore Auto Sales Late Models, The Q Auto & Injury Attorneys Limited Late Models, Oulaw 4’s, Gagel’s Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw 4’s and Street Stocks will all be in action. It will be a feature race only program. The Vintage Sprints and Mods will hit the track along with the kids Easter egg hunt.
