Charlie Montgomery wins the Truck Feature at Desoto

Bradenton, FL February 21, 2009 Charlie Montgomery picked up right where he had left off last season by winning the Truck Feature Race tonight. While his truck appeared to everyone to be a little loose in the turns he was still able to pull out the victory. The race included a rookie that got a quick welcome to the class. Rookie Lance Dubach drove the #77 Truck and did very well while finishing 5th.
There was plenty of action as Brent Huber in the #64 Truck tangled with Bill Manfull in the #48 Truck causing the #64 to a short night and ending in the pit. Stephen Darvalics and team partner Charlie Montgomery were racing in the number one and two spots when then got tangled on the front-stretch and the #41 of Darvalics was sent to the rear. The race ended with Charlie Montgomery going to victory circle and winning while Danny Anderson in the #50 Truck took second. Third place was won by Bill Manfull in the #48 truck.
This was a great race and provided plenty of action. There were also two heat races for the trucks. Stephen Darvalics in the #41 Truck won the first heat, and Brent Huber in the #64 truck won the second heat.
The Champ Karts were also in the house. The Kart heat race was won by Phil Harp in the #77 Kart, Jason Gallini in the #21 Kart was second and Alan McKinney in the #37 was third. The 25 lap Feature Kart race was won by J.D. Cordon in the #99 Kart with Alan McKinney in the #37 second and third belonged to Bo Howard in the #88 Kart. This was a fun race to watch with plenty of lead changes and some spin outs that drew some yellow flags.
The Rock-em Sock-em Bombers provided plenty of love and excitement for the fans. The two heat races were only 4 cars each but they seemed to be well matched and stayed close for the 6 lap events. Winning heat #1 was Jody Collins in the orange #32C car and second was Steve Elder in the #42 car. Third place was Megan’s Dad, Randy Spicer in the #83 car. Randy is driving his daughter Megan’s car while she is serving in the military.
The second heat race was won by John Stewart in the #02 car while second place was won by Lou Russell in the #3 car. Michael Crooks in the #33 came in third place in the heat. The feature 25-lap race was won by Jody “Part Time” Collins in the #32C car. Second Place was Dean “The Boss” Butrum in the #32 car, and third was Randy “The Rev” Spicer in the #83 car. It was a good clean race that the fans really enjoyed.
Pure Stocks rocked the house as usual. The heat race was won by Robert Crisp in the #2 car with Mark Pickleshimer in the #17 car in second. Third place belonged to Billy Carlbert Jr. in the #47 car. The feature 25-lap race was won by Robert Crisp in the #2 car. Troy Thiem really came on strong and worked his way from the rear to a second place finish, and third place was Jason Graham in the #30 car. This Pure Stock class settled down and really raced hard but clean compared to last week.
Outlaw Modified had a strong showing tonight. The first heat race was won by Billy Campbell Jr. in the #11 car. Coming in second place was Tom Meyer in the #04 car and Kevin Campbell in the #19 car was third. The second heat race was won by Rick Mills in the #23 car with Collin Cabre in the #71 car second. Third place was taken by Craig Sherar in the #56 car.
The 30-lap Feature race was won by Billy Campbell Jr. in the #11 car. Second place in the feature was non other than last years Champion Doug Hopper in the #15 car. Winning third place was Tom Meyer in the #04 car. The Outlaw Modified’s put on quite a show and will be back many times this year.
Next Saturday February 28th we will be featuring the ASA Icebreaker. The same guys you watch on TV will be in the house and it will be a rockin. This ASA group really race hard, as it is not all about the fun when it come to this group. They come and they drive to win. They will begin practice on Friday the 27th with the real racing starting at 7 P.M. on Saturday the 28th.
