Troy DeCaire wins TBARA Feature at Desoto Super Speedway
Saturday February 14, 2009 - Bradenton, Fla. It was the season opening night and what a show it was. Track owner/Promoter stood out on the track with 5 crisp $100 bills in his hand waving to David Steele. It was a challenge for Steele to start at the rear of the 18 car line-up of TBARA Real Sprint Cars. At first it looked as if Steele already felt there was tough competition in the field and wanted no part of it. The Announcer and Promoter put some heat on him and the crowd went into a frenzy Steele agreed and went to the back. At the drop of the green flag Troy DeCaire jumped into a quick lead and won the race. The show everyone was watching was the ?David Steele School of Racing show. As the race moved on Steele bobbed and weaved his way to second place and with a late yellow flag it looked like he might just win the extra $500. On the 29th of 30 laps Steele?s drive line came apart and the charge to victory failed. What a show and what a race, the TBARA is alive and well.
The new line for the season was put into place for all the divisions at Desoto Super Speedway tonight. Each class ran two heat races for placement into the feature race for that division. The new line up seemed to work-out fine as the drivers and the fans liked it. A new division named Flyin 4?s was introduced and raced a very good race. Duane Best and Alex Patten each won a heat race. The feature was won by Alex Patten in the #13 car. Jessica Ostrovskis in the pink #91 car was second and in third was Paul Smith in the 11X car. This division is a four cylinder division that is run on the big track and with drivers of all ages. It looks like there will be many more races for this division this season.
The Rockem-Sockem Bombers were in the house tonight and did their best to spread love and paint on Valentine?s Day. The heat races were won by (The Mayor) John Stewart in the #02 Car and (Part Time) Jody Collins in the #32C car. The feature race was a thriller with the #32 car of (The Orange Crusher) Dean Butrum and the 32C car of Jody Collins running bumper to bumper most of the race. It was a great race and the fans loved it. Winning the feature was Dean Butrum in the #32 car. His team partner Jody Collins in the 32C car was second and third place belonged to (The Hammer) Steve Elder in the #42.
Pure Stocks were up next and put on a demolition derby type of race. There were all kinds of bumping and pushing and tempers firing up. This is one of the more closely matched classes and usually run great clean races, but tonight was not the normal night for the Pure Stocks. Winning the heat races were Richie Shepherd in the #30A car and Robert Crisp in the #2 car. The feature was won by Richie Shepherd in the #30A car with Robert Crisp in the #2 car second. Third place belonged to William Carlbert Jr. in the #47 car. Darren Ellis in the #71 car hit the wall hard and had to go to the pit early in the feature race.
Magic 4?s were in the house tonight with a number of rookie drivers. Many of last year?s Magic 4 drivers moved up to Flyin 4?s this year. The winner of the heat race for the Magic 4?s class was Dallas Troyer in the #01 car. Winning the feature race was Kyle Best in the #3X car. Coming in second place was Austin Cavey in the #20 car and third place was Brittany Barr in the 81 car. It looks like another great year for the Magic 4 class.
School Bus Figure 8 Racing put the perfect ending to a great night of racing. There were lots of close calls at the intersection and a lot of bumping but in the end veteran driver James Volk won the feature race in the #76 bus. William Carlbert JR. in the #11X bus took a very respectable second place trophy. Third place belonged to Christopher Dodson in the #21 bus. The School bus drivers did one heck of a job and put on a great show for the fans.
