Aaron Williamson wins Sportsman 50
|
It was Fan Appreciation night at the races this past Saturday night at the Charlotte County Motorsportsd Park. THe Sportsman were back with David Williamson as the polesitter. The first caution came out on lap three for debris. The next caution to come out was on lap twenty two, when the polesitter David Williamson went spinning in turn four.
He was running third at the time. Two laps later second place Aaron Williamson spun out the leader Brian RIchardson. Aaron WIlliamson was sent to the rear and Richardson retained the lead. Aaron Williamson marched his way back through the field and passed Richardson for the lead. Aaron Williamson was able to claim the victory with Brian Richardson and Clayton Williams completed the top three.
Matt Irvin was the pole sitter for the twenty five lap feature for the Fab 4 division. Beverly Hand brought out the first caution on lap eighteen when she spun out by herself and was sent to the rear of the field. The last caution was brought out by Daniel Ohleyer on lap twenty one, when his cars motor blew up. John Pummel Jr who started at the rear of the field, won the feature. Rob Morrice in his first race took second and Beverly Hand came back from her spin out to finish third.
Mini Stocks were next on the track. THe entire race ran caution free with Derrick Horton taking the victory in the twenty five lap race. Emory Murrah finished second with Ashlee Williamson in third. THe THunder Trucks and Road Warriors ran together for a "Hatfields and McCoy's " race . Cory Scott brought out the first caution when he spun out his Road Warrior on the front stretch. Scott went to the rear of the field.
On the restart going into turn three Cory Scott's throttle hung and crashed hard into the wall. Cory Scott walked away ok, but the car was totaled. Tom Pryor went on to win the feature in a THunder Truck. Andy Pryor was second and Chester Lusk was third. Kirk Risner was the polesitter for the Pro 4 feature. The only caution came out on lap sixteen when Mike LeMaster, who was running in third lost a tire. Derrick Horton went on to win his second feature win of the evening. David Amelotte was second and Kirk Risner took third.
The last race of the evening was the Figure 8 race. Chester Lusk took the victory with Derrick Horton in second and Joe Rice in third.
THe start of the 2009 points season starts this Saturday, February 21. IT is the Gator COuntry 101.9 with the Charlotte Stingrays night at the races.
It will ba a night full of racing, with the Checkered Flag Sprint cars running their first race of 2009. Also racing will be the Open Wheel Modifieds, Outlaw Street Stocks, Fastruck Pro and kids, Thunder Trucks, Pro 4, Fab 4 Sportsman and Legends
