Trick or Treat and Racing was a Huge Success at CCMP
The checkered Flag Sprint Car series saw Stephen Sinwald in the 5s starting on the pole alongside the 21A car driven by Amanda Ferguson in there 30 lap featured event at Charlotte County Motorsports Park in Punta Gorda.
The 5s made another good start on the restart and had the lead for one lap before being passed by Mickey Kempgens in the 78 car who had started the race in third position. Behind the 78 car, a close battle was being fought between the 11X of Bryan Riddle, the 79 of David Slawiak and the 19 of Keith Butler.
On lap 6, the 19 found a space and took the race lead away from the 78. The move of the race came on the next lap when the 29 car driven by Gary Gimmler got airborne coming out of turn 4. The caution flag was thrown but somehow Gary kept the car not only on its wheels but also running and drove out of the corner unscathed. Unfortunately for Gary, because the caution flag had been thrown for him, he had to go back to the rear of the field for the restart.
The race got back to green with no more cautions from lap 7 to the end of the race, anyone who has seen a sprint car race with a long green flag run knows that there was some exciting driving to be seen in those 23 laps.
With plenty of three wide racing and battling for positions in the field, it was a great race to watch, but no-one was able to catch Keith in the 19 car and he took the win, followed by Mickey Kempgens in the 78 car, David Slawiak in the 79, Mark Gimmler in the 51 car and fifth place was claimed by Gary Gimmler who had fought his back from last place on lap 7.
The Real Racin USA hard charger award went to Keith Butler who started in ninth position and finished in first place. CFSS will be back at Charlotte County Motorsports Park on December 6th for their final race of the 2008 season. Our continued thanks to the fans and the racers for their support.
The Pro 4 class again impressed the fans when fourteen cars came out on the track for there 25 lap feature and ran green to checker that took twelve minutes. It took Walley Smith in the 16 car five laps to get to the front and take the lead off of Billy Benoit and then had to battle hard charging David Amelotte who wanted that number one spot. David Amelotte took the win and Wally Smith would have to settle for second and Logan Leonard would come in third.
The Sportsman saw the 25 of L.J. Grimm jump into the lead on the first lap and never looked back as Steve Gainey did everything he could to catch Grimm with no success and would have to settle for second. Mike Getts out of North Ft Myers was driving the 47 car of Ryan Pancoast who was sitting out with a knee injury, brought the blue Advanced Machine Repair car safely into third.
The Florida Suncoast Outlaw Street Stock class gave the broom crew a work out with blown motors, broken rear ends and exploding radiators. When all the speedy dry cleared it Shane Leonard in the 18, who ran out in front for all 50 laps to bring home the win. New to the class and coming in second was the 8 of Michael Stalnaker out of Ocala and Richie Shephard from St Petersburgh was third, points leader Donnie Ollie Jr who seemed to be having car problems would come in third.
And then there was the Open Wheel Modified class that had a rough couple of starting laps and some tempers flaring and maybe they had to much trick or treat candy by all the roughness and spin-outs. Lee Collins was in front for the entire 50 laps and who knows what he was wondering was going on behind him to bring out so many cautions and was the race ever going to end. The second half of the race ran a little smoother with less cautions and the 61 of Wayne Jefferson trying to catch Collins. When the checker flag dropped Lee Collins came across the line first with the Rocket-man Jefferson second, Doug Moff would be third and Sean McLaughlin out of Port Charlotte fourth.
Fab 4 would finish up the night with there 25 laps feature, and his first win of the season going to John Pummell Jr out of Arcadia. Running a good race her second time out in the class would be Roxann Davis coming in second and Bruce Gurdus third.
Also the newest addition to the CCMP racing divisions, they are calling them the CCMP Daytona Drafting Karts eight karts took the green and for the first night out it was a good night. The new drivers will get the hang of the drafting part of it as they will be featured once a month for now, with Karts also available for renting. The 36 of Johnny Allen would be the first winner with son Cody Allen coming in second, who was later Dqed in tech making the 99 of J.D Cordon second and 04 of Kellie Burns third.
During intermission, all cars from all of the classes were on the front straightaway and the infield handing out candy to the children and other spectators who were allowed onto the track for the trick and treat session.
Next Week should be just as big of a week end when the Super Late Models return for 100 laps, this race has already got 17 drivers signed up to see who can break the winning streak of Wayne Anderson. Also on tap for the night will be the Dwarf Cars for two features and the Road Warriors, Thunder Trucks, Pro 4, Fab 4 , the returning Outlaw Street Stock class and the fan favorite the Figure 8 race like you have never seen.
