fans in the state." -Orlando Sentinel
Keith Nosbisch set fast time, started third and survived a mid-race tangle with Ken Corbin to win the Kim Allen Memorial at New Hendry County Speedway.
Taking the lead from brother Jack Nosbisch on lap 6, Keith had one fast car on the rough and dusty track, and for the first 25 laps or so seemed unbeatable. Just after the halfway mark of the 51 lap race contact between the 7C of Kent Corbin and Nosbisch resulting in the #101 falling back to third place behind Shan Smith in the 17ss and Jack Nosbisch.
Keith Nosbisch put his car on the high groove nobody else was running, fought off a furious charge from Johnny Collins and finally after a side by side door banging few laps with Shan Smith managed to get the lead back around lap 38.
Hendry County fans once again turned out strong to support the United Dirt Late Models, on a much more comfortable night than the race back in March. Drivers from the series gave out treats to the kids and the festive atmosphere of America's southern most dirt track was alive as usual. Track owner Chris Ponsoldt arranged to have a half dozen skydivers land on the front straight to get the event started with a flair.
Race Notes: -Justin Choquette started on the pole had a problem on the first lap hitting the front straight wall. -Ivedent Lloyd had mechanical problems and did not start the race. -Jack Nosbisch running 2nd in the first half of the race spun and went to the rear. -Shan Smith took second, not what he wanted but still adding to a great month with three wins at three tracks. -Collins at one looking like the fastest car, challenged for the lead faded to sixth. -Keith Nosbisch became the 8th winner this year in the UDLMCS
Rick Anges will have a full race report to follow, action photos from Rick Warren and video from Bob Culbertson's Florida Video later in the week. The audio of the race will also be online Sunday evening.
