"I'm
noticing a turn of the tide on racing Web sites like Florida's
Karnac.com, the gathering place for the most dedicated race
fans in the state." -Orlando Sentinel
With the not so nice rain in the morning on race day and the threat of more for the evening some of the drivers and fans decided to stay home. For those loyal race fans that took the chance to make the trip to ccmp, they were able to see most of the racing except for the Road Warriors who will return for double features on Nov 8th and the Tunder Trucks that will run double features next week.
The night started off with the cars of yesterday for fifteen laps and having three different divisions which included stock, sportsman and modifieds. The winner of the feature event was the 3 car of Rick MR Bolts driving a 1938 chevy sedan, the 44 of Charlie squeaky Gates was second in a 1937 chevy Coupe and third was the 84 of Mark Simpson driving a 1932 ford Coupe.
The FMARA took to the track for the final race of the season. With Jack Duffy and Mike Elder only 20 points apart for the Championship, it came down to this race.
The night started out with nine cars in the pits and Ernie Teed would take the heat race with Mike Belusar, and Jack Duffy rounding out the top three. As the green would fly for the feature, Teed would take the lead with #26 of Ted Durfee in second and #30 of Mike Belusar taking the third spot. On lap 3, the caution would come out as Durfee spun in turn two. He gathered the car back up and held his position while Duffy, Durfee and Belusar battled for room around.
Unfortunately, Belusar would spin in three while avoiding the slowing cars. This would set-up the run to the finish, with Teed, Styner, Duffy, and Durfee nose to tail. Teed and Styner would stay bumper-to bumper from the restart. With five to go, Styner would slide up just enough in turn three for Duffy to get by, bringing Durfee with him. The last three la ps would see Durfee battle past Duffy for second and Styner trying all he could to find a way around Duffy for third. Teed would take the win Durfee second and Duffy third.
This was a great season of racing and a very tough points battle all year. Congratulations to Jack Duffy on winning the 2008 FMARA Championship!
Congratulations to Jamie Barnum on winning the 2008 FMARA Rookie of the Year Award!
Mini Stock would see the 32 car of Jesse Dutilly win the feature with Emory Murray second and Ricky Bullard third.
In the Faster Pastor race there was some real racing going on and at one point it was three wide going into the turn for the lead. The winner was Jim Ammerman of First Alliance of Port Charlotte then Jerry Vaughn of Venice Assembly, third was Senior Patstor Gary Gray of Venice Assembly and fourth was youth pastor Eli Mares of Deep Creek Worship Center.
The Late Models were up for 100 laps with fast time qualifier Ross Chastain also pulling the one pill to sit on the pole and the 4 place time of Steve Dorer outside. Not sure if the veteran (being Dorer) was trying to intimidate the young Chastain who was having none of that or what the real reasoning behind it taking 20 minuets and four trips by flagman Greg Roeback down on the track to straighten things out. Well who knew that all the excitement would come from all the pre green nonsense that turned into being quit amusing as they finally got a lap in and the 36 of Ross Chastain got the jump on Dorer and was in the lead going into turn two. All the focus was on the two front cars that everyone forgot about the cars behind them being put through all these restarts and nonsense but I guess the old Fox did not forget as Randy Fox was second row inside the entire time. With Fox having a front row seat to what was really going on and seamed to be Dorer not being happy with Chastain in the lead the 4 of Fox turned Dorer around to put it nicely which sent him into the pits on the hook for the night. Chris Fontain out of Lakeland got around Chastain on lap 10 and went on to win the race by holding off hard charging Bobby Shelton out of Del Rae Beach and third place went to Casey Caudell as he bumped Chastain out of the way on the last lap who would end up fourth.
