Just when you think the racing could get no better at Eastbay Raceway Park, the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series rolled into town for a 50 Lap A-Main that brought out some of the best drivers in the southeast, including many local Eastbay teams. Names such as Schmauss, Crouse, Collins, Mathews and a couple of Nosbischs’ made it hard to chose a favorite to win, but it was local driver Josh Peacock that brought the crowd to their feet with a last lap, turn 4 pass for his 1st UDLMCS Feature win ever.
The rookie driver followed behind the #12 car of Jack Nosbisch who started on the pole and lead almost every lap of the race. Nosbish appeared to be well on his way to pick up the win, but as the laps began to wind down, lapped traffic came into play and allowed Josh to close in on the leader. In typical Eastbay fashion, both drivers were side by side into turn 3 on the final lap. Nosbisch went high and Peacock kept it on the bottom splitting lapped traffic as they as they exited turn 4. The Dover, FL driver got a run and held on to pick up an emotional victory. An obviously disappointed Jack Nosbisch held on for an excellent 2nd place run. Johnny Collins, Doug Horton and Mark Whitner rounded out the top 5.
The emotional wins continued in the Limited Sprints Division as #42 Paulie Milum picked up his 1st Feature win of the year. The usually reserved Milum was definitely pumped, throwing his driving gloves into the stand and celebrating with his team and his fans in Victory Lane. Danny Jones, Rich Alexander, Tim George and Rocky Sullivan rounded out the top 5. Milum also won his heat race, while Troy Knowles was the winner of Heat Race #1.
The Motorstats.com Street Stocks provided side-by-side action throughout their Feature event. #17 Danny Hill has really picked up the pace in the last half of the season and came into the night only 13 points behind current Championship Points leader Donnie Reed. Hill not only battled Reed, but Mathew Grissom, Pat Dent and newcomer John Wilson for the lead, but was able to hold on for the hard fought win. Grissom finished 2nd and Reed, who held on to the Championship Points lead in 3rd. John Wilson and Pat Dent rounded out the top 5.
In the Ever-changing 4 cylinder bombers it was the “Odessa Flash” #40 of George Christensen holding off challenges including 2nd place finisher Paul Huffstutler in a great battle for the lead. Third place Collin Kruse had a great run, with Frank Miller coming from the back to fourth, with Jimmy Odell rounding out the top five.
Normal racing for Eastbay will be on hold next week as the World Famous Crash-A-Rama thunders into town with their extreme brand of motorsports action including boat/trailer races, skid-car racing, roller derby, x- team motorcycle stunts, V-8 and Front Wheel Drive demo derbys and a $5000 to Win Enduro.
