Big Win for Schmauss at the Clay by the Bay! Fans Treated to Incredible Performance by Eastbay Veteran!!
East Bay Media
Ninety-Five cars were on hand at Eastbay Raceway Park as the weather finally cooperated long enough to complete a fantastic night of racing. Just over 3 months remain in the 2008 racing season, and competitors were beginning to feel the pressure.
The summer lay-off and rain-outs allowed teams to repair and prepare their equipment, and home track late-model veteran David Schmauss definitely took advantage of the time off.
“I had just about given up on this car,” said Schmauss in Victory Lane. “We took this car back and I told the guys to do whatever they needed to do to get it right. I didn’t even want to know what they did. I just knew we had to get it right, and they did.”
While Schmauss lead every lap in both his heat race and the A-Main Feature, that didn’t mean there was no passing going on. Point’s leader KD Kelly and Steve Miller got together off turn four after they had some tremendous side-by-side action that had the fans on their feet. Kelly wound up in the wall while Miller went on to finish 2nd just in front of Ryan Mitchell, Wallace Peacock and Bobby Alexander, Sr. John Norris and Rich Kissinger were winners in both of their heat races.

In the Limited Late Models, Tim Gay was the driver that put on the show. Gay started dead last in the A-Main, but was able to work his way through the other nineteen teams including #21 Forrest Gough on the final lap to pick up his sixth win of the year. JR Prather, Jr finished 3rd, Tim Powers 4th and Cheryl Cochran 5th. Gough also won his heat race along with Daniel Woody and Bobby Johns.
The 15-Lap Street Stock A-Main Feature was a side-by-side-by side battle from the beginning. Zephyrhills, Fl driver Donnie Reed finished just in front of Danny Hill, Buck Skinner, Buck Woodhouse and Steve O’Lone for his 2nd win of the year. Reed would also hang on to his slim 24 point lead over Hill. Randy Tyler and Mathew Grissom were winners in both of their respective heat races.
In the Outlaw 4’s it was Maverick Varnadore picking up his 1st win of the 2008 season over Mathew Haynes, Shane Burrows, Chad Rose and Paul Sampson. Maverick also won his heat race while Michael Gulvin won heat race #2. Shane Burrows now leads the Championship Points battle by just 1 point over Jim Courson.
Frank Miller continued his excellent performance in the 4-Cylinder Bomber division winning his 6th feature event of the year. Jeffery Porter finished 2nd, Kyle Kruse 3rd and Roberto Morfin 4th and Bubba Puyear 5th. Collin Kruse and Morfin were winners of the two heat races. Miller now holds a slight 12 point advantage in the point’s chase over Collin Kruse.
Racing continues next Saturday night as the Vintage Cars return to Eastbay Raceway Park along with the Limited Late Models, Limited Sprints, Open-Wheel Modifieds, Street Stocks and 4 Cylinder Bombers.
