Mother Nature cooperated and the rain cleared up in plenty of time to go racing at Bronson Motor Speedway Saturday Night. Another great night of “Grassroots Racing” continued with adult admission only $ 10.00 and all the kids 11-under were admitted FREE! After all the action last week, the fans turned out to see what was in store on the high banks of Bronson this week! The full moon peeked out from behind the clouds as the feature races began, an ominous sign of things to come!
As the feature races began with the Hornet Division the mayhem was unleashed! A lot of bumping and grinding went on before the race was slowed many times before the scheduled distance of ten laps. When all the dust settled, Robert Edwards was declared the winner and Juan Montelvo finished second. The officials had their hands full accessing penalties after the race was completed. It definitely was a crowd pleaser as the fans cheered and laughed right to the end!
The Thunder Stock 20 Lap Feature was much calmer, and Steve Hise of Inverness raced from the last row to take home the top prize with Jon Brown of Lake Pansofskee coming home second and Inverness’ James “Doc” Batson rounding out the top three.
In Super Stock action, Dunnellon’s Brent Cooper domination continued, however he and Bronson’s Tommy Ausburn raced side by side for several laps until Cooper took the lead. Willard Driggers and Randy O’Neal were back in action, however took a “synchronized” spin in the early laps. Ausburn would come home second and Krystal Batson came in third.
The Grand Finale of the evening would be the 30 lap Limited Sportsman Feature. After all the excitement in last week’s event, the race fans were on the edge of their seats for the beginning of the race! Gainesville’s William Edwards streaked out an early advantage with High Springs’s Matt Blum and Shelton Bowers of Chiefland in hot pursuit. Edwards made an untimely slip on lap 15 and Blum and Bowers took advantage, and went to the first and second spots. After taking the lead, Blum got turned around by Bowers, resulting in a penalty for Bowers. Blum then had clear sailing as he held off Edwards and Inglis’s Mike Baker for yet another feature win.
