8/2/08
It was a wild night of racing at East Bay Raceway Park. Six classes of racing were on the card with over 100 cars signed in. The temperature was hot and so was the racing as it was the first time in over a month due to the wet summer that the drivers were able fire up the engines at the Clay by the Bay.
First on the track was the Outlaw 4’s. Shirlene Hammond led early after starting on the front row. Points leader Jim Coursen started in the 9th spot and as the fans have seen many times this year wasted no time making his way to the front of the field. Coursen was able to hold off the challenge of Shane Burrows to take his 6th feature win of the season. Burrows finished 2nd. Micky Wright finished 3rd. Matt Haynes and Jerry Bruce rounded out the top-5. Coursen and Hammond won the heat races.
In the Limited Late Models Daniel Woody started in the 10th position and was able to battle his way to the front of the field. Woody crossed the finish line first and earned his first feature win of the season. Forrest Gough continued his strong season with a 2nd place finish. Tim Dowling finished 3rd. Randy Shields, Jr. scored a 4th place finish after going to the back of the field on an early caution. Jamie Anderson came home 5th, his first top-5 of the season. Gough and Bobby Johns won the heats.
Gene Lasker motored his was to another win in the Limited Sprint division. Lasker started 7th and used his traditional high line to make his way to the front of the field, once there he would not be denied. It was Lasker’s 4th feature win of the season. Points leader Tim George finished 2nd after a strong run. Paulie Milum battled Lasker early for the lead and finished 3rd. Greg Leonard raced from a 16th place start to finish 4th. Kurt followed Leonard from deep in the field and came home 5th. Tim George and Lasker won the heat races.
Twenty-seven Convire 4 Cylinder Bombers signed in to race in what has become one of the most competitive classes at the Clay by the Bay. Frank Miller came off a dominating performance in his heat race and started 12th. Miller wasted no time getting to the front of the field where he pulled away for his series leading 4th win of the year. Kyle Kruse finished 2nd. Jeff Porter earned his 2nd top-5 of the season with a 3rd place finish. Wayne Kissam and Robert Kissam rounded out the top-5. Jimmy O’Dell, Colonel Miller and Frank Miller won the heats.
In the Motorstats.com Street Stocks class points leader Donnie Reed visited victory lane for the first time this season. Reed was able to battle through numerous cautions, which ended the night of many of the 21 cars that started as they finished their night in the pits. Matthew Collins finished 2nd. Danny Hill led many laps and finished 3rd. Steve O’Lone was 4th. Bob Fleming came home 5th, his first top 10 of the season. Randy Tyler and Buck Woodhouse won the heat races.
In the Ladies Powder Puff Kelli Hill took the win. Tamra Calabrese finished 2nd. Lori Miller was 3rd. Vera Leonard finished 4th and Dana Miller rounded out the top-5. Special thanks to the Convire 4 Cylinder Bomber teams for the use of their racecars.
