LOGAN BORDEAU TAKES ADVANCE AUTO PARTS PRO TRUCK WIN AT ORLANDO SPEEDWORLD

by Jane Smith and Dave Westerman

Orlando, FL (June 13, 2008) Hot and humid weather, dark clouds and a few rain showers did not stop the Advance Auto Parts Pro Trucks from heading to Orlando SpeedWorld for fifty laps of hot truck action.

In the end, it would be a long fifty laps featuring a total of fourteen caution flags, four of which were needed just to complete one lap!

Ricky Moxley set fast time over the 21 truck field at 15.095 seconds but it was Keith Lilley on the pole as Moxley pulled the five pill, inverting the top five trucks. After an on-track autograph session, it was time to buckle in and go racing.

On the green, Lilley pulled to the point followed by Logan Bordeau, Kevin Henry, Austin Pickens, and Ricky Moxley. However it was only green for a few laps as Whitney Poole brought out the yellow on lap 2 for a spin on the backstretch.

Lap 5 sees the green back out as Lilley has the point. George Gorham, who is the points leader for the truck series, is right on Moxley but Moxley holds. Going side-by-side are Scott Reeves and Scott Bishop.

Reeves takes over ninth as Bishop goes to tenth. Reeves then begins to look on Blake Koch but Koch holds his position and keeps Reeves in ninth.
Jason Vail has problems with his trucks and pulls onto pit road, done for the night. Lilley and Bordeau, who are going at it hard for the point, come upon lap traffic with Lilley going one direction, Bordeau another. But somehow Lilley holds the point keeping Bordeau in second.

Whitney Poole then brings out the caution again for her second spin of the night in turn 2. The race goes back green on lap 15 with Lilley, Bordeau, Henry, Pickens, Moxley, Gorham, Barry Bartlett, Reeves, Koch and Bishop leading the way.

But the caution comes out as Ricky Moxley and George Gorham get together as Gorham tried to take fifth causing a rather big mess. Gorham goes in for a flat tire, Chad Pierce is forced to retire his truck, Moxley has front-end damage but both Moxley and Gorham return to the field for the restart.

Eighteen trucks are now left on the restart on lap 18 as Lilley once again leads the way over Bordeau, Henry, Pickens and Reeves. But it is the unlucky number 3 for Whitney Poole when she spins for the third time on the frontstretch. As they say, three strikes and you are out and Poole is put on pit road for the night.

Lilley once again leads the way on the restart however it is a short green as Michael Kay brings out the caution for a spin in turn 2 rejoining the field at the rear for the green. Lilley holds the point on the restart on lap 29 but it does not take Bordeau but one lap to pass Lilley on lap 30 and take over the number one spot putting Lilley second.

Austin Pickens and T.J. Dukes get together in turns 1 and 2 but do a great job of not bringing out the caution and correcting their trucks to continue on. In the meantime, Bordeau is building his lead over Lilley, Henry, Reeves, and Koch. Scott Bishop puts the heat on Koch and takes over fifth as Koch settles into sixth.

Just as the action is hot and heavy, Austin Pickens brings out the caution as he spins on the backstretch. Only 14 laps are left as Bordeau leads the way over Henry, Lilley, Reeves, and Bishop. Henry is able to take second spot from Lilley as Lilley slides backwards into the field for seventh. Once again the caution comes out as Austin Pickens has spun on the frontstetch.

It seems as though lap 36 is not a good lap as three times the field goes back to green only to go back to yellow on the same lap. After three failed attempts on lap 36, the trucks finally see lap 37 as Bordeau leads the way over Henry, Lilley, Bartlett, and Tyler Laing. But it is another short green as the caution comes out again for Blake Koch and Scott Reeves who have gotten together. Reeves drops his window net and is done for the night after having something break in his truck. Koch rejoins the field in the rear for helping bring out the caution.

Thirteen trucks are left on lap 42 as the race goes back green with Bordeau, Henry, Lilley, Bartlett, and Laing in the top five. But it is second place truck Kevin Henry who nows has bad luck as his trucks slows and dies on the frontstretch ending his night. Evidentally Henry has suffered a drive-line problem.

Lap 45 sees the green but it is very, very short as Koch and Dukes get together on the frontstretch bringing out the yellow. Dukes goes to the rear for the restart as Koch retires his truck to the pits.
Eleven trucks are now left as Bordeau leads the way over Lilley, Bartlett, Laing and George Gorham. Jessica Green finds herself sideways as Bishop takes the advantage and passes Green for sixth. It is now Bordeau, Lilley, Bartlett, Laing, Gorham, Bishop, Green and Dukes.

Bordeau takes the checkered as Jessica Green spins coming to the checkered on lap 50. Bordeau takes the win followed by Keith Lilley, Barry Bartlett, Tyler Laing, and George Gorham.

The next race for the Advance Auto Parts Pro Trucks will be July 3 at New Smyrna Speedway for 75 laps.

It took three tries to get the Sportsman feature race under way as Steve Farris hit the wall on the intitial start but was able to continue. On the second try, Rick Johns attempted a three-wide move going down the back stretch, but ended up hard in the turn three wall. Johns was OK but done for the night.

Once the race got going it was all Andy Nicholls as he ended three weeks of bad luck with a wire to wire win. Justin Reynolds returned after a month off to claim second over Jeff Wright, Brad Stevens and Ryan Rust. Jessie Cuddy, Brian Lynch, Jr., Brian Lynch, Sr., Farris and Johns rounded out the top ten. Nicholls also won the heat.

David Russell wired the field in the Mini Stocks leading flag to flag. The Melbourne driver took his second win of the year in his Russell Electric/Shorty's BBQ Ford. Heat winner R.J. Arnone took the runner-up position over Steve Wheeler, Randy Blakeslee, Rob Reynolds, John Cook and Jeff Pittsley. Jason Rosarius and Emily Cottrell were unable to start the feature.

Super Stock action found Jason Pick going green to checker for his third win of the year. Bobby Simcox came home second while Bobby Riley crossed the line in third but had his engine protested by fourth place finisher John Hodge.

After considerable checking, the powerplant was found to have some issues and Riley was disqualified handing the third spot to Hodge. Ray Mullis and Dennis Snyder moved up to fourth and fifth. Austin Carr was the heat race winner.

It was quite a night for the Bordeau family. After Logan won the Truck race, his dad Mark Bordeau, running "for fun," topped the Action Gator Tire Strictly Stock field in his Ford Fairmont. Trailing Bordeau to the checker were heat winner Glen Rhodes, Neal Kirby, Gary Thomas and Ricky Solomon, Jr.
