"I'm
noticing a turn of the tide on racing Web sites like Florida's
Karnac.com, the gathering place for the most dedicated race
fans in the state." -Orlando Sentinel
It was a scorching hot evening as the stars of the “Grassroots Racing” program flocked into Bronson Motor Speedway. Ice cold drinks were the order of the day, and the concession stand was hopping. The high temperatures led to some uneventful heat races as the drivers did not desire to push their cars to the limits, rather wait until the sun set before the hard racing began. The biggest surprise of the evening was the large number of Hornet Division cars ready to take to the track. This beginner class is building up and delights the fans with their on track action. As the features began the temperature had dropped quite a bit and there was even a threat of something called, Rain?? Fortunately, all the features were raced and the fans certainly got their money’s worth!
Daniel Cummings of Inglis was celebrating his high school graduation at the track Saturday Night, and he was able to do so in large fashion by winning the first of two Hornet Division Feature Races. Dustin Hughes smoked the field in Feature Race number two. After a great start, the second hornet feature ran caution free through the new chicane course, with Hughes prevailing.
In Thunder Stock action, the Welter’s domination continued. In the absence of his son, Larry Welter Sr. was able to lead wire to wire on his way to another feature win. Eric Gellman was second and Don Welter came home third. It was another sweep of the top three for Welter’s Racing!
Bronson’s Tommy Ausburn had his machined primed and ready for the Super Stock feature. Again, like previous weeks, Ausburn was able to take the lead early. Unfortunately for Ausburn, Brent Cooper’s ride was a little faster. Cooper brought home another win, while Ausburn had to settle for third. Larry Welter Sr. pulled off a second place run while pulling “Double Duty”.
In the main event, nine Limited Sportsman cars roared onto the speedway. Matt Blum, Shelton Bowers and Mike Baker charged through the field. There was wholesale passing until the trio had command of the top three spots. For most of the race it seemed Bowers was waiting to make his move on leader Blum. Baker was in third waiting on the top duo to slip so he could take advantage. Bowers tried one go for broke move in the final laps but Blum held him off. Blum would pick up another win, while Bowers settled for second and Baker would come home in third, with William Edwards taking fourth.
Next Saturday Night the fun continues at Bronson Motor Speedway with the Limited Sportsman, Super Stocks, Thunder Stocks and the new and exciting Hornet Divisions! Adults Admission is only $ 10.00 and Kids 11-Under are FREE! Gates Open at 5:30 and the Racing Action begins at 7:30. What a great family night out with the excitement of stock car auto racing!
