Jason Pick tops Super Stocks, Rusty Dixon Memorial Rained Out at Orlando SpeedWorld
by Dave Westerman
Torrential rain coupled with thunder and lightning put an abrupt end to Friday night's racing program at Orlando Speedworld. Before the rains intervened, five of the scheduled nine feature events had been run.
Unfortunately one of the features that fell victim to the wet stuff was the Second Annual Rusty Dixon Memorial for the Central Florida Wingless Sprint Cars. Despite the gloomy weather forecast and a holiday weekend, sixteen Sprinters showed up to try out the fast 3/8ths mile.
Jimmy Alvis just edged out Joey "The Ace" Aguilar in CFWS heat race one with Brian Gingras coming home third in front of Dennis Misuraca, Dakotah Stephens, Lil' Jimmy Alvis, Darrin Miller and Donnie Misuraca.
Heat race number two firmly belonged to young Blaze Martin as he finished a straightaway ahead of second and third place Billy Riddle and Gary Gimmler. Rounding out the finishers were Bryan Riddle, David Retzlaf, Mike Koss, Curtis Carter and Dan Statter.
The Super Stocks just got their feature race in before the rains came and it was a good one. Jason Pick led from green to checker to take his first win of the year and shake off several weeks of bad luck. The race behind Pick for second was wild to say the least as heat winner Matt Jarrett made a late charge to get the runner-up spot over John Hodge, Bobby Riley and Ray Mullis. Completing the top ten were William Hindman, Jeff Parrish, Dennis Snyder, Austin Carr and Delaun Fifeld.
Pedie Allison was back on top of the Mini Stocks as he led wire to wire for the victory over heat winner David Russell, Rob Reynolds and Emily Cottrell.
The Legend Car Charger class got their race in and it was Tim McCormick getting his first career win after apparent victor Mike Gleason was DQ'd in tech. Daniel Conlin, Sr. wound up second in front of Ted Ruffo and Roger Englund.
In action for the Hearndon Construction Bandoleros, Critter Saile topped both the heat and feature in the Bandits. Trailing Critter in the main event were Shawn Hooven, Justin Bechtold, Coty Bibeau, Cameron White and Daniel Conlin, Jr.
Donovan Ponder again was on top of the Young Guns feature taking the win over heat winner Zach Harris and Mark Hooven.
Other heat race winners were Andy Nicholls (Sportsman), Shaughn McCormick (Legends) and Neal Kirby (Action Gator Tire Strictly Stock).
