Hendry County Back In Action
By Rob Kohler

Hendry County Speedway hosted a ladies night out on Saturday evening. Wives, daughters and friends were given the chance to test their skills on the race track.

One of the stand outs was #32 Katie Cambell. She drove very well and added that she would be joining the Mini Stock class in the future. Another driver who earned the respect of the fans was April Mosely.

No suprise that she can drive she is the daughter of track veteran Sabrina Mosely. I think after this event we may see her in her own car in the future. Dorothy Jackson also received honors for driving Adam Powell's car flawless through the run.

Limited Lated Model action is always a blast. Split heat races saw #44 Tim Powers draw the #1 pill and run away with the heat race.

In the 2nd heat there was alot more action. #96 Bob Steimetz and #15 Bob Ragula got together on the back stretch sending Steimetz right into the path of #35 Calvin Filingame. Filingame's car flew into the air and then slammed the wall ending his evening.

Steimetz would replace a front tire during the clean up and race back to 3rd in the heat won by #61 Thomas Scott. Tim Powers continued his win streak on his birthday. Easily drove away from the field on every restart to capture the checkered flag.

Thomas Scott had run 2nd most of the race but ended the night with a DNF. Steimetz who had been running 3rd was sent to the back for losing the nose of his car and causing a caution. On the restart Steimetz was up against the wall triing to put the pass on #3 Joe Henke when Henke shot up the track to miss a spinning #17 David Morr. Steimetz and Henke bounced off each other and the wall all the way down the straight into turn one where they collected Morr in the pile up. Greg Morrison #12 was able to escape all harm and finish 2nd. Tommy Hill #88 was given credit for the 3rd spot after being spun out on the final lap.

Street Stock Division is always great racing. Bobby Vaughn won heat #1. Bob Cook Drove to victory in heat #2. When the 13 car field took to the track for the feature, #29 Jesse Brown was at the rear of the pack. In just one lap with some good use of the top side of the track he was in 6th position.

Nothing could stop him from getting to the front in a big hurry. Jesse brown got the win from the last starting spot. Jerry Ferrel #98 had a spin early in the race was able to drive back to 2nd. Tommy Hill #1H grabbed the 3rd position.

Steve Mosely #1 grabbed the win in heat 1 of the Pure Stocks. Then it was #9 Brian Morgan in the 2nd heat. Morgan who has had his share of bad luck over the last couple of weeks was able to stay out in front and lead the whole feature. Steve Mosely put on a good run but had to settle for 2nd. Jonny Mosely #68 grabbed himself a top three spot.
Bomber Division hit the track with 9 cars. J.R. Fitch took the heat and feature wins. After the race the driver of the big Chevvy Caprice said work is under way for a Street Stock ride in his near future. Camaro style my favorite. Vincent Taylor #48 had a 5th place finish in the heat but was able to score the 2nd spot in the feature. Melissa Agent #007 drove to the 3rd position.

Mini Mods showed a stronger 8 car turnout. Glenn Bidwell took the win in the caution free heat race. The feature was follow the leader. The leader being #10 Wayne Hildebrand. He got into the groove and on to victory. S.C. Klinger #28 was triing all he could do to catch Hildebrand but had to settle for 2nd. Ron Dubeau #11 grabbed the 3rd position.

Mini Stocks were shown the way through the heat race by #00 Christin Augsperger. The feature event was led mostly by #32 Eddie Cambell. All drvers nose to tail most of the race. On the last lap last corner Augsperger got into the back corner of Cambell and brought him around. The flagmen wanted to rerun the last lap but all the cars had already left the track so scoring went back to the last completed lap. the win was awarded to Cambell. Augsperger would still get 2nd. Devlin DelChaie #3d would get 3rd.

Thanks to everyone who helped out and made the night a success. We will be back racing on June 7th. Hope to see everyone again then. Cow-Boy Out!!!
