David Slawiak wins CFSS at Charlotte County Motorsports Park
By Melanie Beckner
Charlotte County Motorsports Park fans were once again treated to a great night of racing by the quality and quantity of drivers that showed up for yet another action packed night of racing. The parade lap started the night off with a salute to the troops which had everyone on there feet thankful for those who have and are still serving our country.
With the heat races done the thunder trucks came out for the first feature of the night, with the 35 of Ray Jayne back and the 14 truck being driven by Rayn Pancoast the first twenty laps saw the 35 holding off Pancoast till the tranny of the 14 truck broke giving the win to Ray Jayne of Port Charlotte, Ryan Meiser in the 19X was second Tom Pryor third. The Fab 4 class was up next for there twenty five laps which saw the 55 of Mark Davis from Naples run away with the win which will now move him up to the pro class being his third time in the winners circle. The battle was going on behind the leader which ended up the 11 of Jimmy Welkins second and Rose Macho third.
With sixteen Checkered Flag Sprint Cars all fired up and taking the green from Wild Child there official starter, it was the 19 of keith Butler who came from the 5th starting position to be the leader of the first lap. The 8 of Shane Butler quickly was right behind keith were he tried for eighteen laps to take over the lead until the caution came out sending them both to the rear.
With the Butlers in the rear on the restart of lap nineteen it moved the 79 of David Slawiak up to the lead which is were he would finish the race with the 29 of Gary Gimmler second and the 22 of Scott Adema third, 51 of Mark Gimmler fourth and withk only ten laps to go and being in the rear of the field the 19 of Keith Butler and the 8 of Shane Butler would have to settle for fifth and sixth.
After the exciting sprint cars race it was time for one of the backbone classes ( regular drivers that support and call CCMP home) the Pro 4's, to run for 50 laps which before they started, pulled all eighteen cars out on the track to be greeted by the fans who came down to meet, greet and get autographs.
After being treated like Pro's in the autograph session all 18 cars took to the track and drove like Pro's and put on a great show for 50 laps. The only car that seemed to be in a league of his own was the 1 of Cory Scott who was leading till lap 30 when something went wrong with the car as he continued to slow down and ended up in the pits.
There was great racing going on from second on back were these Pro's were racing for positions all the way back to the end of the field, it was just one of those races were your head was turning from the leader to the back for 50 laps.
The 16 of Wally Smith from Naples had his hands full when he took the lead on lap 30 where he had to battle with the 85 of David Amelotte till the 90 of Jacob Ingram took over the second spot with ten laps to go and it was down to the checkered till you would find out who would be the winner of this start to finish exciting race, even Wally Smith did not know who won the race till the officials gave the word that it was the 90 of Jacob Ingram of Lehigh who's "bumper" crossed the line first.
The 00 of Chris Lucas was third, the 57 of Logan Leonard who had just moved into the pro's after last weeks win in the Fab's did a great job and finished fourth, Paul Graham fifth and Dylan Bigley sixth. With all the drama going on from the sportsman drivers over the new rule package there were twelve drivers that came to race and gave the fans who love the sportsman a race worth watching.
The 1 of Andy Allen sat on the pole and had the lead till he brought out the caution by spinning on lap three. Mad Maxx Bennett driving the 28X took the lead and never looked back to win the 35 lap race that took almost and hour due to all the cautions. Aaron Williamson in the 13 took second and Clayton Willams who started dead last was able to stay out of trouble and make his way up to the third spot.
After being warned by the flagman several times, the 8 of Dan Scott was finally sent to the pits for several attempts and then finally spinning out the 44 of Brian Teeters who ended up fourth after all that and the sportsman champion win, which ended the old rules package last night. June 7th will see the sportsman finish off the year with all 50 lap races, new rule package and new points chase.
Last race of the night was the popular Road Warriors were the 29 of Don Jericka had the lead with the orange car once again putting the pressure on him for that spot and still needing to do some adjustments to the car to make it stick and hold off the Venice boys the 29 was sent to the rear for spinning on lap three.
It looked as if it was going to be a replay of the last race with the 30 of Jessie Duttily winning the race till his car broke on lap 22 giving the lead to team mate Jeff Firestine who ended up in a familiar place at the end, " the winners circle". Blaine Baer was able to finish second putting a blue streak in the middle of those orange cars when the 32 of Dean Butrum came in third.
