Andrew Griffin wins Mini Sprints at Hendry County Speedway
The Florida Mini Sprint Association was on the dirt once again at Hendry County Speedway. A field of 21 cars on hand to race for the checkers. Jesse Teed drove the #7 to a win in heat race #1. Andrew Griffin #88 was the victor in the 2nd heat. When the green flag dropped in the feature turn one was the scene of problems for a few drivers.
After the restart Griffin made a wild move on the back straight to take the lead going into turn 3. Alot of slicing and dicing back in the pack brought father and son team of Ed Moss Sr. and Jr. #1m and #8m together. Jr. got into the back of dad and turned him sideways in front of the whole pack. With nowhere to go Russ Heider #86 piled into Moss. Both cars were able to race on until a few laps later when the two collided again. Heider would not be able to continue. Andrew Griffin would not be challenged and went on to the win over Ed Moss Jr. and #21 Amanda Ferguson.
Bob Steimetz #96 took the heat race win in the Limited late model class on a very dry slick race track. During intermission some water was added to the track and it stayed smooth and dust free for the rest of the night. Steimetz was on rails for the feature way out in front until a caution flag flew with only four laps to go. Robert Regula #15 had scrubbed the wall down the front straight and was having trouble getting his car of the track in turn two. Tommy Hill #88 also suffered a flat and retired his ride for the night at that time. On the restart Steimetz slid a little high into turn one allowing #21 Jimmy Loubert to try and make a move on the bottom. Loubert door slammed Steimetz and the result was a flat tire on each car. Joe Henke #3 was the benefactor as he would inherit the lead and get the win. Steimetz would stay out and run the last couple laps with a flat front tire. Loubert with a flat rear was unable to finish.
Street Stock action is always exciting and Hendry County. Bobby Vaughn #32 was on his game in the heat race taking the win. From the outside of the front row Tommy Hill #1H was able to get into turn one first to lead the feature. Vaughn and local favorite Jesse Brown #29 battle for the 2nd spot the whole race long. A last lap pass on the outside of turn to got the 2nd spot for Brown but he could not catch Hill. Vaughn settled for 3rd. Jerry Ferril #98 had suffered from universal joint issues in the heat had to start in the rear but was able to come up to 4th.
Pure Stock was the biggest class of the evening. Gary Champion #23 was the winner of the heat race. Champion picked up right where he left off leading the whole feature for the win. Brian Morgan #9 proved he had a fast car racing from the rear of the feild to 2nd position but was several laps down after motor trouble on the first lap. Steve Deilman #26 was able to clinch the 2nd spot. Jeremy Morgan#92 was the 3rd place car.
Bomber cars were out in strong force. Ed Steinhoff was able to run out front of both the heat and the feature. Racing only to show off his car for sale, Steinhoff would not get credit for the wins as he has been asked to move out of the Bomber division for too much expierence in a novice class. So technically #21 Scotty Kay Jr. got the heat race win. Vincent Taylor #48 was the feature race winner over Phil Peterson #88 and J.R. Fitch #9.
Mini Mods and Mini Stock race combined for lack of car count. Brian Bail #27 took the heat and feature over S.C. Klinger #28 and Glenn Bidwell #26. Christian Augsperger #00 hung in there with the faster mods to take the Mini Stock wins over Devlin DelChaie #3D and Heath Walker #4.
A special racing event for double points is planned for the 17th. Come on out and join us for good food, friends and racing. See you there. Cow-Boy Out!!!
