Wild Racing Weekend At Charlotte County Motorsports Park

It was 50's weekend at the Charlotte County Motorsports Park with racing Friday and Saturday night. Friday night had the Road Warrior, Real Racin' USA Thunder Trucks and the Pro4/Fab4 all going for 50 lap features, along with the Legend cars.
Real Racin' USA Thunder Trucks were the first division out for their 50 laps with Ray Scott on the pole. Ray Scott leads the first couple of laps before Ryan Meiser gets around him to claim the position. Ryan Meiser and Randy Kile would have a great battle for several laps before Kile would take the lead from Meiser on lap 34. Randy Kile takes home the win Ryan Meiser second and Chester Lusk third.
The Legend cars had an exciting race for their 30 lap feature. Mitch Verhaagh lead the first lap with faster cars coming quick. Gerald Campbell would lead for a few laps until Kory Abbott takes over the lead. On lap 25 your leader Abbott and second place Josh Willians get together with Williams going head on into the backstretch wall, collecting James Rodriguez. The red flag was brought out and Abbott was sent to the back of the pack. When the green came back out Kevin Henry is in the lead and he would stay their claiming the victory. Hard charging Kory Abbott comes back to finish second and Mike Verhaagh takes third.
Pro 4's and Fab 4's were combined together for a 50 lap race. Logan Leonard leads the early part of the race. Lap 5 sees a three wide battle for the lead with Danny Daniels Jr taking the lead and checking out from the rest of the field. Logan Leonard would bring out the caution on lap 29. On the restart their is a lot of lap traffic between Daniel Jr and second place Michael Rodriguez. Paul Graham and Chris Lucas battled for the third spot for several of laps. Danny Daniels Jr checks out again and wins the 50 lap race. Michael Rodriguez was second and Chris Lucas would take third.
Road Warriors is the last class to race on Friday night. Daniel Sweet was on the pole and leads until the fast car of Chris Onken takes over the lead from Sweet. Lap 15 would bring out a caution for Sweet stopping on the track and the spinning cars of Jeff Firestine and James Dellea. On the restart Don Jericka spins out and Daniel Sweet slams into Jericka's car bringing out another caution. The race would have to be shorten to 44 laps due to the curfew with Chris Onken winning, James Dellea second and Dean Butrum third.
Saturday night had a lot of action as well. The Legends returned for another 30 lap feature, with Gerald Campbell on the pole and leading the first couple of laps. Codey Benoit takes the lead by lap 4 but he would only lead for a few laps as well. Josh Williams wins the feature, Mitch Verhaaugh and Codey Benoit completes the top 3. Modified Mini had a great race for the lead for several laps with Joe Gagan and Chris Zimmerman battling it out until they get together bringing out the caution. Both cars were sent to the rear and Jesse Henley now leading. Jesse Henley was the winner, Phil Cruse was second and Chris Zimmerman third. Second place Phil Cruse was disqualified in tech with Zimmerman moving to second and Ricky Bullard Jr third.
The Open Wheel Modified had an action packed race. James Winley lead until lap 3, "Rocketman" Wayne Jefferson takes the lead from Winkley. The caution would wave for the spinning car of Johnny Newsome. On the restart third place Scott McDaniel would spin second place Phil Morrison sending McDaniel to the back. Lap 33 seen second place Morrison spinning again with third place Sean Mclaughlin sent to the rear of the field. Wayne Jefferson would go on to win with Phil Morrison second and Troy Robinson third. Phil Morrison was disqualified for unsportsman like conduct moving Troy Robinson to second and Eric Rudd to third.
Checkered Flag Sprint Car Series were back at the track for their 30 lap feature. The Sprints saw a caution free race with Mark Gimmler taking the early lead and checking out from the rest of the field, to bringing home the victory . David Slawiak and Keith Butler completed the top 3.
Last race of the evening was The Suncoast Outlaw Street Stocks for 50 laps of racing. Rocky Reinhold would take his car out front for the first lap. However he would not stay their long with a three way battle for the lead by lap 3. Richie Sheppard would take the lead . Vernon Hart Jr and Richie Shepard went door to door for the lead by lap 4. Hart and Shepard get together on lap 5 with Hart Jr taking the lead from Sheppard. Vernon "The Mailman" Hart Jr goes on to win. Donnie Ollie Jr gave Hart a run for his money with him all over the back bumper of Harts car to come home second and Ricky Bullard Jr third.
Next Saturday will see the Late Model 100, Sportsman 35,Fastrucks,Fastkids,Road Warriors,legends,Bandoleros,Mini Cups and the TQ Midgets.
