Bronson Motor Speedway was alive with excitement on Saturday Night as the Starts & Cars of the ASA Late Model Series stormed the high banks for the Flagship RV 100. Seventeen of the best late model drivers in the Southeast qualified for the main event.
Jimmy Lang driving car # 86 set a new track record for ASA series with a lap just over 13 seconds. Local favorite Travis Cope was second fastest. After the inverted start the two fastest qualifiers would start in the third row. Blake Lehr assumed the lead as the green flag fell.
In hot pursuit of Lehr were the # 88 of Justin Larson, # 75 of David Odell and the remainder of the field. With Lehr still on the point, Travis Cope was moving through the pack picking up spots during a long green flag spell.
Closing in on the end of the race, Cope caught Lehr and tried a daring pass in turn one. Lehr spun and both he and Cope were regulated to the rear. David Odell assumed the lead and looked as if he was a lock for the win.
Fast qualifier, Jimmy Lang ran down Odell with 5 laps to go. While trying to make a move for the lead there was contact between Lang and Odell. Justin Larson joined the battle and the cars raced three wide into turn one. All three drivers wrecked, Larson was sent to the rear. This set up a two lap shootout for the win. As the top two entered turn 3, something went amiss on Odell’s machine and Lang raced by to steal the win!
The Super Stock Division was the first BRS event of the evening. Tommy Ausburn set the pace early. Brent Cooper caught and passed Ausburn for the lead. Cooper then set sail on the field and cruised to his second win of 2008.
Once again, the Limited Sportsman Division had a full field of cars for their 30 Lap feature. The excitement of the action thrilled the fans as up to eight different drivers had a chance for the win. Donnie Roberts, from Bronson, lead the first twenty three laps. William Edwards stalked Roberts for the entire night.
The handling on Roberts’s car went south, allowing Edwards to race by and take the lead. Edwards was then able to fend off all challengers to lead the final seven laps, making it four different winners in four weeks in the Limited Sportsman Division!
Next Saturday Night it’s “Back to Grassroots Racing” as Bronson Motor Speedway with our Limited Sportsman, Super Stocks, Thunder Stocks and Hornets all in action!
