JL Snowden Makes it Two in One Night at Orlando SpeedWorld
by Dave Westerman
KORY ABBOTT MAKES IT TWO IN A ROW IN LEGENDS J.L. SNOWDEN GOES 2 FOR 2 IN PRO CHALLENGE SATURDAY AT SPEEDWORLD After being washed out the previous week, Orlando Speedworld was back in action with some great racing Saturday night. For the second time this year, Dallas Ingram wheeled his car to a win in the Legends Charger main event earning a transfer into the "A" main later in the evening. Ingram took the Charger victory over heat winner Jim Gleason, Roger Englund, Ted Ruffo and Daniel Conlin, Sr. Former Bandolero Champion Gerald White, Jr. grabbed the early lead in the 25 lap Legend Car feature and finally seemed to have a handle on his new car. White gamely held onto the front spot for eleven laps before defending Speedworld champion Kory Abbott got by and sped off to the win, his second in a row. White held on for second, a career best, ahead of Jimmy Norman, first heat winner Shaughn McCormick and Rusty Chancey. James Rodriguez took the checker in sixth ahead of Tony Sansom, Mark Bibeau and Rick Wetmore. Chelsea Schillig was running fourth when her car ran out of gas on the final lap and she coasted across the line in tenth. Abbott also took the win in heat two. J.L. Snowden had a perfect night in the Pro Challenge events as he won the heat, then scored a pair of 25 lap feature wins. Snowden really enjoyed the victory lane celebration after the first feature as his son Jarrett took second. It was the first time they had finished 1-2 here. Ryan Rust claimed the third spot in feature number one followed by Paul White, Gene Dibble, Bruce Gibson and Rowdy Gordon. After finishing dead last in both the heat and first feature, Rowdy Gordon's crew bolted on four new tires and he led the opening four laps of the nightcap before Rust got by for the top spot. J.L. Snowden was again on the charge and Rust surrendered the lead on lap 14. Snowden went on to take his second feature win of the night ahead of Rust and Gordon. Jarrett Snowden was fourth ahead of White, Gibson and Dibble. A nice field of Florida Mini Cup Racing Association cars were on hand with heat races going to Bobby Rogers and Devin McLeod. McLeod took the early lead in the feature only to have contact with a lapped car send him spinning on lap 12. FMCRA officials placed McLeod back up front and that's where he kept his Dominos Pizza machine to the checker leading a tight four car formation to the finish. Brady Marshall was a close second ahead of Corey White, Rogers and Flint Anderson. Rounding out the top ten were Don Mays (with a new M&M's paint scheme), Vinnie Page, Steven Holt, Don Huntington and Phil Beede. In action for the Hearndon Construction Bandoleros, Critter Saile took both the heat and feature wins in the Bandits. Daniel Conlin, Jr. had his best ever finish in second ahead of Coty Bibeau, Justin Bechtold, Cameron White and Shawn Hooven. The Young Gun feature fell to Donovan Ponder as he went wire to wire for the victory over Zach Harris, Mark Hooven, Carl Haag and Caleb Hearndon. Ponder also took the heat race win. The E&H Car Crushing team of William Hindman and Jim Erb crossed the finish line one-two in the ABC Towing Hurricane feature. Rex "Boneman" Hollinger, in a guest appearance in Todd McCreary's Ford Probe, took third ahead of Devon Cuddy and Mark Walls. Rounding out the top ten were Gary Thomas, Bomber Bill Loomis, Rob Reynolds, Tim Walters, Jr. and Brian Cosier. Hindman and Erb split the heat race wins as well.
