"I'm
noticing a turn of the tide on racing Web sites like Florida's
Karnac.com, the gathering place for the most dedicated race
fans in the state." -Orlando Sentinel
The Bronson Motor Speedway kicked off its racing campaign on a chilly Saturday Night. The theme for this season’s races is “Getting Back to Grassroots Racing”. All throughout the year local competitors will be in the spotlight as the main event. Featured classes will include Limited Sportsman, Super Stocks, Thunder Stocks and the newly created Hornet Division.
The Hornet Division actually features both a Junior Division (14-17 year olds) and a Senior Division. In additional to the new format, the Main Grandstand Prices have been slashed for regular season events to $10.00 for adults and kids 11-under are FREE! Thus creating an inexpensive way to entertain the entire family!
In racing action Saturday Night, Limited Sportsman started off the evening in dramatic fashion. The drivers and their ground pounding machines were eager to take the green flag to start the season. Shelton Bowers took the early lead and led the first ten laps. On the eleventh circuit, a hard charging Mike Baker wrestled the lead away and never looked back. After surviving a few late restarts, Baker picked up his first ever Sportsman win. Matt Blum raced from deep in the field to second, followed in third by Fred Tuski.
Next on deck were the Super Stocks and Brent Cooper overcame some trouble from earlier in the evening to lead all 25 laps to his first win of the 2008 season. After dominating the early stages of the event, Cooper did face a late charge from James “Doc” Batson. Cooper beat Batson to the finish by about four car lengths, followed in third by Richie Smith.
Not to be undersold, the Thunder Stock drivers were up to the challenge of putting on a show themselves! After 20 laps of furious action, in which it appeared as many as six different drivers could prevail, Bill Ryan, who traveled all the way from Inverness to take home the top prize, followed by Steve Hise and Bobby Taylor.
Don’t miss all the hot racing action next Saturday Night at Bronson Motor Speedway as they continue their “Back to Grassroots Racing”! At ten dollars for adults and kids 11-under are free, load up the whole family and tell the neighbors to come on out and enjoy the evening!
