Hendry County Speedway hosted the United Dirt Late Model Challenge Series 2nd round action. There were 40 cars in attendance to battle for 24 A Main starting spots. There were also 4 provisional spots to bring the field up to 28 cars.
During the heat races some of Florida's best dirt drivers showed the way. Heats were won by Ivedent Lloyd, Shan Smith and Josh Peacock. Other heat race winners were P1, 5K and 5C driver names not available at this time. Marshal Austin Jr. won the 1st B Main and Kent Corbin won the 2nd. When the green flag flew on the A Main as many expected it was tough going at first. Many caution flags flew until the field settled down and thinned out a bit.
Some track favorites would not make it to the finish line. Jeff and Justin Choquette were on the sidelines early as was Michael Cherry. When the dust settled after the checkers flew it was Ivedent Lloyd of Ocala with the win. Josh Peacock battle closely all the way but settled for 2nd. Shan Smith has won more Late Model races at Hendry County than anyone else. He finished in the 3rd position. Jeff Conyers and Roger Crouse rounded out the top 5. The next race for the series is on April 5th at East Bay Raceway.
Bobby Vaughn took a heat race win in the Street Stocks. A very close battle between the top 4 cars would carry on into the feature. A battle the whole race long would wind up with a narrow victory for Jesse Brown. Jerry Ferrell was right on his bumper. Bobby Vaughn wound up in the 3rd position. Del Powell got by Tommy Hill to take away the 4th spot.
Christian Augsperger edged out Steve Troop for the heat race win in the Mini Stocks. Troop made contact with the wall in the feature and was unable to go on. Brian Bail rose to the top of the standings over Christian Augsperger and Devlin DelChaie.
Pure Stock Division was a mix of new talent. Ryan Hannah won the heat race after Veteran racer Brian Morgan broke the ring and pinion gears in his #9 car. Morgan's crew went back to Clewiston to grab another rear end from fellow racer Tommy Hill. They had the car complete and ready for the feature. Morgan had the lead when Hannah's throttle stuck going in to turn 3. Hannah could not get it shut down in time to avoid hitting Morgan's driver side door taking both cars out of the race. This opened the door for Portus Mellete to run up front and take the win. Connie Turner got the 2nd spot. Mary Cordis 3rd.
April 5th is the next event at Hendry County. Come out and join your racing buddies for some great fun and great food. Cow-Boy Out!!!
